Drive By Truckers - Songs They Think Everyone Should Hear

Recommended Posts

'A Blessing And A Curse' is Drive-by Truckers' seventh album, and a reference to what they think about themselves being labeld by fans and critics as the "best rock band in the world." Whether or not you agree with such claims, one thing is univerally true--Drive-by Truckers are for real, and their personality, history, and style are front and center in their music. Chief among the personalities is Patterson Hood. He took some time out from their spring tour to let us know some of the music he's been listening to while on the road.

Patterson Hood's List of Music You Should Hear

"The Blues Are Still Blue" ~ 'The Life Pursuit', Belle and Sebastian

My favorite new single right now. Very T-Rex influenced and catchy as all hell. Could end up being this year's "Hey Ya."

"Charlemagne" ~ 'Knitting Needles & Bicycle Bells', Tenement Halls

A great song from one of my favorite unknown bands. Chris Lopez has been leading great bands in and around Atlanta for years (Rock-A-Teens) and this may be his best yet. Merge put the album out recently.

"Triggers and Trash Heaps" ~ 'Fort Recovery', Centro-Matic

The latest single from my favorite band. Melodic, catchy as hell and rocking.

"Pompeii Am Gotterdammerung" ~ 'At War with the Mystics', Flaming Lips

One of my favorite tracks from the Lips' fantastic new album. Like every other song on the new album, this one grows on me each time I hear it.

"John Wayne Gacy Jr." ~ 'Illinois', Sufjan Stevens

My favorite song of last year, possibly my favorite album too. Hauntingly beautiful. Probably my favorite murder ballad since 'Nebraska'.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
