New laws to limit use of TV recording in Aussie...

Recommended Posts

Proposed changes to Australian copyright laws will impose strict new limits on the use of material recorded from TV and CDs.

Under the proposed changes announced over the weekend by the Attorney-General Philip Ruddock, it will only be permissible to watch a recording from TV once, after which that recording will have to be deleted.

It will also make illegal the time-honoured tradition of lending recorded copies of favourite shows and sporting events to family and friends who missed them on television!

The lawmakers should tape themselves and watch it so thay can hear how stupid they sound. Then they can delete it. :glare:

Who's going to enforce those unenforcable laws? What would stop anyone from watching a taped TV show multiple times, or lending the latest soccer game to dear old Aunt Emma who missed it while she was in the hospital?

The DPD (Delete Police Dept.). The country will appoint an officer to sit in your living room or bedroom and after you watch the tape, he will then take and replace it with a new one. You could use the same tape to record over the old show but you will need a permit from the local judge. The officer would also be responsible of lending the tape to others, making sure they only watch it once. He will then bring the tape back deleted for later use. While the officer is on his lending duty, another officer will take his place making sure that nothing illegal takes place in your home.

The officers will not be allowed to wash dishes, take the kids to school, punishing the kids, laudry etc. They won't be allowed to drink alcohol (although it might need another officer to keep an aussie from drinking).

DPD officers will have to look the other way when you decide to have sex with your partner or masturbate.

Unless you are making sex tape which he might need make sure you delete after watching it once.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
