Veteran rock poet Patti Smith's next album, "trampin'," is due in stores April 27 via Columbia. The set is Smith's first for the label after spending her entire 30-year career with Arista Records.

Smith's ninth studio album, "trampin'" boast 10 original tracks in addition to the title song, a spiritual popularized by late opera singer Marian Anderson. That cut features the debut performance of Smith's 16-year-old daughter Jesse, who adds piano accompaniment.

Smith is joined on the set by her regular band -- guitarist Lenny Kaye, drummer Jay Dee Daugherty (both original members), bassist/keyboardist Tony Shanahan and guitarist Oliver Ray. That lineup also recorded Smith's most recent three Arista albums, 1996's "Gone Again," 1997's "Peace and Noise" and 2000's "Gung Ho." Pat McCarthy (R.E.M.) mixed the set, which was produced by Smith and her band.

Columbia launced a site (link bellow) that features background on each of the "trampin'" tracks as well as personal updates by the artist.

Here is the track list for "trampin'":

"jubilee"

"mother rose"

"stride of the mind"

"cartwheels"

"gandhi"

"trespasses"

"my blakean year"

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
