Progressive technical metal pioneers, Watchtower, are offering free MP3 downloads of several tracks from their first two albums here: Energetic Disassembly and here: Control and Resistance. The downloads are at the very bottom of the pages. Both demo and album versions are available for all the tracks.

Here is a short bio from BNR Metal Pages:

Watchtower

Origin: Austin, TX, USA

Status: Active

Last Update: November 1, 2002

The penultimate progressive technical thrash band, Watchtower ushered in a new era of extreme metal with the masterpiece that is their debut album, Energetic Disassembly. Featuring an array of chaotic time changes, aggressive vocals, and possibly the most accomplished rhythm section in metal, this was one of the highlights of metal in the eighties. Half the band had changed three years later when the followup, Control And Resistance, was released, but the quality did not diminish, though the overall atmosphere was a bit more reined in compared to the wildness of the debut. There aren't enough adjectives to truly describe how powerful and influential this band was -- they are truly pioneers in the realm of progressive/technical metal.

Since the release of Control the band has been on hold while the various members pursued other projects, amongst them Ron Jarzombek's solo project Spastic Ink and Doug and Rick's venture called Retarted Elf. At various times work had been in progress on a third album, entitled Mathematics, but the chances of a new release appeared slim until the summer of 2000, when the band (McMaster, Jarzombek, Keyser, and Colaluca) reunited to play a few festivals in Germany and some local gigs. At last report, work continues, albeit slowly, towards completion of Mathematics. Meanwhile, Monster Records has released a collection of early demos, under the title Demonstrations In Chaos, in early 2002.

A very tight band, and very high energy. That got my blood going! FYI-- I added a metal search engine in my recent post in Undying Wizard's metal thread

After reading the thread about the most insane person in Rock, and finding Prince canvasses for the JW's, I thought this had something to do with them.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
