F*****G Ebay!

Shawn

Recommended Posts

With one month left to summer I decided to really relax with some old time gaming. I have a number of n64 and snes games, but neither system anymore.

I got the n64 off ebay without trouble.

However I won the snes just this morning. The snes came to 14.50 pounds (crazy brits) and his standard shipping within the UK was 7 pounds. Now I realize that it will cost more to Canada, but when I contacted him he quoted me 31.99 pounds.

I replied "That's for the item and shipping then?".

NOPE, JUST THE SHIPPING.

:reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad:

He said if it cost less when he went to mail it he would send the extra back, but the whole thing smells scammish to me. I've asked him to change the shipping info through ebay then so I have a record of the shipping paid if there is a problem later.

Haven't heard back yet.

yeah, i won a fairly rare CD last week on ebay (the Kyuss/QOTSA split EP on Man's Ruin--totally out-of-print, making my Kyuss collection one step closer to completion :P )---the guy had standard usps ($4.00) and international ($8.00) He's in Baltimore MD i'm in Providence RI; hardly international. First round of bills he was going to soak me for the eight bucks! I wrote back with a copy/paste of the page where it showed 4 buck for shipping and demanded he adjust the price, which he did. But if I didn't bitch, guess what...

more than once i have not bid on something cuz the s&h seemed sketchy, sounds like your getting screwed Shawn. check what the original listing said about s&h, and if you have to, complain to the powers that be.

worst case, you can always slam them on the feedback :reallymad:

Yikes.

Shawn, when I went to find a SNES, I found it in a used shop in town for about $20. I don't know what the currency conversion rates are.... good luck with the guy you're dealing with now.

If you end up screwed over, I can try to find something around here. Just lemme know. There are tons of places near me that sell old game consoles and games.

He's running a shipping scam (nobody does this "send extra back" shit; there's no protection from eBay or any guarantee he'll send it back).

Also....

The numbers you quoted were bloated beyond my wildest dreams.

Stay away from now on.

I also recommend that you look for auctions from people within your own country and/or who list items in your currency.

It's less of a headache, expecially for something like an old N64 system.

Oh, and while we're on the subject of SNES and N64, if you have a decent system with a half way decent video card, and a joy stick/controller (optional because you can use your keyboard, but it'll be tough for N64 and such) for your computer, you can grab up all the SNES and N64 games in ROM file format, and use an emulator program to play them.

Cheaper, and you can get almost any game in existence (From regular P2P, IRC, Newgroups, and ME! I've snagged hundreds of SNES and N64 ROMS from the newsgroups).

I can set you up with an Emulator, ROMs and instructions on how to use them.

PM me if you're interested.

I'll pick it up and send it on to you

The majority of sellers (even if they live next door to you) don't allow for in-person pick-ups.

I bought some RAM from a person about 15 minutes away from me (by car), and I couldn't pick it up.

Luckly even with the shipping, it was still a steal, and the shipping price wasn't so bad.

Some companies might let you do it, but the majority still don't allow it.

That's really a waste of time.

Any neutral or negative feedback that you leave for someone usually results in negative feedback in retaliation (the system is flawed), even if you’ve committed no foul.

The only way to get someone is to avoid feedback all the way up until maybe the last day you can leave feedback for a particular auction and then, like auction sniping, you can snipe the feedback.

Its tough timing it right though.

I'll ask him to send it COD.

Alternately I'll pay his standard 7 and have it shipped to you MI. You can send it on COD.

If he lives nearby, I'll pick it up and send it on to you, otherwise you should be honest and tell him you think £31 is a scam and you want it revised.

The only thing I would say is I dont want to get lumbered with it if it does cost £31 to send to you!

Ditto... happy to help if I can!

I've looked at no end of things on e-bay and backed out of them when I've seen ridiculously high postage charges - the guy that wanted £12 to post a CD for instance!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
