Sony Settles On NY Payola Investigation

sony.jpgOne of the biggest music companies, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, agreed Monday to pay $10 million and to stop paying radio station employees to feature its artists to settle an investigation by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

I bet that little marketing plan had quite a pay off... to bad for them that's very illegal.

I must admit part of me does admire their "we'll do whatever it takes" attitude... but on the other hand you'd think that they'd pick up artists that do a better job of selling themselves to the public w/out dirty under the rug pay-offs.

Spitzer stomps more ass than any other political figure I've ever seen.

I never get tired of reading about whose ass is being handed to them by Spitzer.

I might vote for him in 2006 when he runs for governor of New York State.

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
