Mel B's Album Only Sells 600 Copies

Recommended Posts

Former Spice Girl Mel B's pop career has hit an all- time low, with her latest album not even making it into the charts.

The one-time Scary Spice, full name Melanie Brown, released her second solo album, La State Of Mind, last month.

It came out on June 27 on the little known Amber Cafe records and was due to chart last Sunday. But the CD didn't make it into the Top 40 - or the Top 75.

In fact, sources say the record sold little more than 600 copies.

This week, its second on the charts, it is not even due to make it into the Top 200. To put it in perspective, the latest No 200 is due to be Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms, an album released 20 years ago.

Last night chart expert Genarro Castaldo, from music store HMV, said: "Because La State Of Mind's chart position is so low it doesn't register on any of the available data."

A source revealed: "It really is a tragically bad chart position. But actually the album's not that bad."

In the nineties, the Spice Girls' debut album sold 20 million copies. Mel's first album Hot made it to No 28 in 2000.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
