So, ...what do you do then?

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone, am new to this site, and came straight to this section...am curious, as a producer myself, I wondered, how many of you in here produce, how many dj, and how many play an instrument?

For the record, I produce, used to dj a little (had to sell my 1210s due to student debt), and tried playing the keys but couldnt :P

...

what about everyone else?

I dabble with software music production in my spare time, which I have very little of. Right now I'm getting ready to go through my little mp3 collection and rip some samples to play with. After school, I'll try some hardware work, but... no money, no time... oh well. :wha':

I played tenor sax in high school, then bass in several bands in college and after into the early 90's. Then I got involved in a jazz blues combo for a couple years. I still have my bass which i still thump on occasionally, and me and a couple of good friends plan to start up a Sabbath/Kyuss-like loudheavy thing when we can all get together.

Meanwhile I got into making music on my computer about 5 years ago, making loops and soundscapes to create some techno-industrial tracks under the moniker "Contact The Commander." I have about 2 or 3 CD's worth of stuff stored on a hard-drive waiting for me to finish my MA in history and do something with it all. I really enjoy making music--its just so time-consuming I haven't had the free time really, not for a couple of years. Kids...work...research...classes...sex...lunch...its alot.

The tower i built to make this music on was named "CTC Command." So there you have it.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
