This Day in Hard Rock history.....

April 14, 1980: IRON MAIDEN's self titled EMI debut is released, entering the UK chart at #4.

April 14, 1986: 'Stars' is released from the Hear N' Aid benefit album, featuring 40 artists from the Metal community (led by RONNIE JAMES DIO), aiding in the fight against African famine relief.

April 16, 1987: DEEP PURPLE's House Of Blue Light tour opens.

April 17, 1982: IRON MAIDEN's third album, The Number Of The Beast, enters the U.K. LP chart at Number One. Rumour has it that during the recording, the band was haunted by mysterious things like amplifiers blowing out for no apparent reason and tapes losing recorded tracks and picking up strange voices. As well, producer Martin Birch was involved in a car accident just after the title track was recorded and his auto repair bill came to 666 UK pounds.

April 17, 1986: HEAR N' AID's 'Stars' video premiers.

2002: SAVATAGE welcome back renowned guitarist Al Pitrelli after his time in MEGADETH.

2002: the two main forces in KROKUS, guitarist Fernando Von Arb and vocalist Marc Storace officially announced their reunion for a new Krokus era.

2002: The Sam And Dave Tour, featuring SAMMY HAGAR and DAVID LEE ROTH, is a go with 25 dates being booked across the US.

2003: METALLICA complete work on their forthcoming St. Anger album.

2004: JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford "unofficially" confirms that the band have re-signed with Sony Music for their much-anticipated reunion album.

2004: MONSTER MAGNET signs to SPV USA.

2004: OZZY OSBOURNE receives a letter from the Canadian Prime Minister stating that he is to receive the Keys to the city of Montreal.

2004: a misdemeanor battery case against VINCE NEIL is dismissed after he completed more than 100 hours of community service.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
