Michael Haydn : Composer comes out of the shadows

For too long, Michael Haydn was one of the more shadowy figures of 18th-century music. While his brother Joseph enjoyed an international profile and went down in history as the genial Papa Haydn, Michael was later sneered at for being "a little rough in manners and in later life given to drink". Yet Schubert confessed to weeping at Michael Haydn’s grave and hailed him as one of his most-admired composers.

Well, true, He's a real great one... I've play in the seventies and with real pleasure, a quintett from him that had lot of spunk! and a trio for hrn, vln & cello, and, more recently some duets for violin and viola... for the little story, he was contracted to compose six of such duetts for some noblelty, and, having finished only three of them, became sick, and so, he asked to his good friend Wolferl, I mean Wolfgang-Amadeus (but it's a bit long, and anyway, nobody called him like that!), and so, Mozart composed and added three duetts for him...

Talkin' about unknown composers, I mean, real great ones, but that nobody knows (or very few), there are lot of'em... I spent my whole life trying to bring some to light, and each time, the public was so pleased and surprised... (Onslow, Woolett, Boïeldieu THE SON, Molique, Lesueur, Litta...) I'll give some more names later, and probably will talk further 'bout them in further posts of their own...

Cheers

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
