U.S. Releases Document Citing Al Qaeda Threat

Published: February 11, 2005

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 (Reuters) - A memorandum posted Thursday on the National Security Archive Web site warned the White House at the start of the Bush administration that Al Qaeda represented a threat throughout the Islamic world, a warning that critics said went unheeded by President Bush until the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The memorandum, from Richard A. Clarke, Mr. Bush's top counterterrorism chief and a holdover from the administration of President Bill Clinton, was sent to Condoleeze Rice, the national security adviser at the time.... Mr. Clarke had requested an immediate meeting of top national security officials as soon as possible after Bush took office to discuss combating Al Qaeda. The meeting did not take place until Sept. 4, 2001.

Clarke was called a liar by the admnistration when he stated in his book that he had warned the Bush Administration prior to 911. Condoleeze Rice denied having seen such memorandums. :reallymad: :reallymad:

You only get persecuted if you lie about getting blow jobs. Apparently the lives of 3000 US Citizens does not promote the same level of outrage in the Republicans as the spillage of presidential spunk on the Oval Office rug. The former results in 40 million dollar independent impeachment investigation while the latter makes you Secretary of State.

hey Wolfie--the one's a threat to national security, the other's...ah, what's 3,000 lives and an attack on amerikan soil? (A: a photo-op for the preznit)

moving right along, the other night i was watching a programme about the Oklahoma City bombing and couldn't help but admire how the FBI guys (who coincidentally were being filmed on the golf course that morning) fucking sprang into action the second their cellphones rang. they were there w/i minutes.

compare 'n' contrast w/the preznit and his crucially important reading of 'my pet goat.'

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
