Prince to Play Eight-Minute "Jam Session" on "Saturday Night Live"

Prince will perform on this week's episode of "Saturday Night Live", marking his first appearance on the show since 2006. He'll be breaking new ground, too. Traditionally, musical guests perform twice in four-minute bursts: once near midnight, and once near the end of the show. Instead, Prince will perform for eight straight minutes in the middle of the show, without an encore. He'll be joined by his band, 3rdEyeGirl.

Eight minutes is just long enough to do the full "Purple Rain", but it'll probably be something from the recently released Art Official Age and PlectrumElectrum albums. It's also being billed as a "jam session" in a press release, so brace yourself.

Chris Rock is hosting this week's episode. Prince's musical guest slot came at Rock's request.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
