She & Him Announce Covers Album, Classics, Share Dusty Springfield Cover "Stay Awhile"

She & Him, aka Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, have announced their new album Classics, the follow-up to 2013's Volume 3. The band's first record for their new label, Columbia, is out December 2. On their website, they revealed a radio widget that, when tuned to the proper 1202 AM station, plays their cover of Dusty Springfield's "Stay Awhile"

A full tracklist has yet to be revealed, but the album features 13 covers of "timeless standards," according to a press release. The previously shared trailer, below, includes an excerpt of their cover of 1964's "Oh No Not My Baby", the R&B song written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. (Another trailer they shared this morning plays a snippet of the "Stay Awhile" cover.)

Classics was recorded live and features a 20-piece orchestra arranged by Ward.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
