Jack White to Speak at Yale

Last year, Jack White's Third Man record label partnered with Revenant to release The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917-1932), which compiled songs from the Paramount label, a Wisconsin company that issued early jazz and blues records. A second volume will follow on November 18. On October 28, White will participate in a roundtable discussion at Yale University entitled "Exploring the Rise and Fall of Paramount Records"

A description at Yale's website says the panel will "present an evening of musical exploration and conversation, unpacking the label’s rich history," while each participant will play one song in its entirety before discussing it in detail. White will be joined by music critic Greil Marcus, Revenant's Dean and Scott Blackwood, musician Adia Victoria, and Yale professor Daphne Brooks.

Listen to "That Da Da Strain" by Ethel Waters & Her Jazz Masters, which appeared on the first volume:

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
