Recommended Posts

The outburst was one of the most interesting moments of Tuesday's concert, hosted by Bush twins Jenna and Barbara, who were in the audience but did not come on stage.

mmpphhhhh! (struggling not to comment) :)

I still havent recuperated from Donny Osmond's rendition of Go, Ronnie, Go at Reagan's inauguration in the 80s. Those Republicans really no how to let their hair hang down and swing--their music is about as pathetic as their politics

Once you get that nasty Tool off the stage, that's a quite the rockin' event.;) At least I can understand each of their contributions.

I can't really understand why "actor Stephen Baldwin" took part in the festivities

John Stewart's take:

The inauguration is happening right now. Everything is getting very exciting. Everybody is getting prepared down in washington. There was a concert last night for the young people to get inspired because rock music and the young people... so I think it was like hillary duff and jo-jo and the muppets, who the hell knows.

There's one guy a rock star in the band fuel. Let me show you this. [Holds up newspaper] The guy comes out. The band's name is fuel because that's why we fight wars. He comes out and he goes "welcome to the greatest (beep) country in the world." Now this is in washington where the young people have come to celebrate democracy. And it really presents a real challenge to the right-wingers in that he cursed but it was in the service of patriotism.

So is it really a curse at all? He said (beep). But he used it to modify the terrificness of the country. He didn't suggest that we literally hold america down and (beep) it. No. That, of course, would have been inappropriate.

But to suggest... for instance, if you were to say to yourself, ah (beep)suckers, that's bad. That can get you in a lot of trouble on many different levels, sodomy, et cetera and the various things. If you were to say, france, a bunch of (beep), not bad.

Seriously though... this is a great (beep) country.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
