DJ Rashad Documentary Coming Tomorrow on Pitchfork.TV

This past March, Pitchfork.tv went to Mexico to make a short film documenting a weekend in the life of late Chicago footwork luminary DJ Rashad and fellow producer DJ Spinn. Surrounding their performance at the Monterrey-based DIY music festival NRMAL, the film follows the duo from arrival to departure, capturing the event through their eyes.

Rashad seemed invincible that weekend— at the peak of his creative powers, commanding the crowd in tidal ebbs and flows, and brimming over with the infectious enthusiasm and kind-spiritedness those around him knew and loved. It felt implausible that, less than two months later, he would no longer be with us. What’s left is a bittersweet but moving portrait of these two influential DJs and best friends, celebrating the lives they built for themselves and tearing up the streets of Monterrey together— another weekend, another city, another party.

Rashad Y Spinn premieres tomorrow on Pitchfork.tv.  Watch the trailer below.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
