  1. Many Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta fans may have heard of Debra "Ms. Deb" Antney because of reality television, but she's been a formidable force in the music industry for quite some time. The Mizay Entertainment founder and CEO has handled clients including Gucci Mane, French Montana, Nicki Minaj, and her son, Waka Flocka. She's helped to shape the careers of some of our favorite top-selling artists, and in a recent interview with Street Certified Podcast, she shared her thoughts on the ongoing criticism of Nicki Minaj. For years, people have pointed the finger at the Queen rapper with claims that she doesn't respect the female hip hop artists that have come before her. This has often caused quarrels for Minaj, but Ms. Deb clarified that not only was Minaj one of the hardest working rappers she's ever dealt with, she always gave respect to women who helped pave the way. "Nicki changed it for me for women," Deb said. "When I watched how hard that girl—that girl worked hard. I mean, we could have knock-down drag-outs, but when she went on that stage or she went on that interview, you would never know nothing was going on. She worked. She didn't allow nothing to stop her nor interfere with anything that she was doing. That's why with women...she made it hard for me now. She set that bar high. Regardless of what people say. People talk about, 'Oh, she so nasty, she so this.' But y'all think about [it], y'all ragged that girl. You ragged her. And she paid homage to a lot of people. I'm a lot of people, but I'm not a hater to women. That, I'm not, and I'm not gonna stand for that. Period. We do no hating, but she paid a lot of homage. How much homage people wanted her to pay? I don't know. But she did pay a lot of homage." The rap beef between Minaj and Cardi B turned physical at a New York Fashion Week event, something that set Ms. Deb on edge. "Even for now, I hate the fact that they bring Nicki and Cardi together," Deb continued. "They're two different people. Nicki and Cardi are not the same artist. So for people to bring them two against each other, I think it's horrible. I was more angrier with Nicki for feeding in. You understand what I'm saying? You don't have a reason to feed in. That platform, that bar you set is so high. If anything, you uplift her. That's how this is supposed to be. I don't respect a female out there in hip hop right now, because I ain't seen one bring another one up." "In my day, even though you had the Queen Latifahs and the MC Lytes and all of these women—they battled, but they all performed and supported," she added. "You can't even go to a concert with a bunch of women on the stage. It's not gonna happen 'cause the ego-trippin' and the way that they all are. They're just selfish as I don't know what, so right now I don't respect none of 'em because you not coming back and uplifting anybody else that was out there. People forget so quickly where they come from and what [they] did to get to where [they] are." View the full article
  2. You're always treading in dangerous territory when you allow people to ask you questions on Instagram. The social media platform lets users opt-in for a "ask me anything" feature on their Instagram Stories, and celebrities love taking advantage of it because it makes them come across as more relatable. However, when a person has hundreds of thousands of followers, not all of them are lurking because they're fans. T.I.'s teenage daughter Deyjah Harris has received her fair share of strange responses on her IG, but she's been able to maintain her own level Harris-inherited Clap Back in order to keep people in line. Recently, she gave followers the opportunity to pose their questions to her, but one person rubbed her the wrong way. "Why you ain't post tiny for her b-day," one person said to Deyjah about her step-mother. "I get the feeling you really don't f*ck with her." Deyjah didn't mince words with her response. "See that's your problem," she began. "You think a post equates to the love, admiration, respect, etc. that I have for her? while you so busy worrying about why a post THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU wasn't made, i was too busy making sure my gratitude and adoration was shown and expressed with actions." She ended her statement by saying, "I mean, i've literally checked everywhere on my receipt and i have yet to see as to where the hell i bought your opinion at." The high school graduate has learned from her family well. View the full article
  3. After years of relationship drama, some of which has unfolded on-screen for reality television viewers, Yung Joc is getting married. Earlier this week, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta fans watched as the Georgia rapper dropped to one knee and proposed to his longtime girlfriend, attorney Kendra Robinson. Considering his sordid romantic relationships with LHHA castmates Karlie Redd and Kadiyah Lewis, it was surprising to find out that Joc and Kendra have been together for years. However, they battled through the reality TV drama and have been able to make their partnership work. TMZ claims that they've spoken with the newly engaged rapper and he's stated that being with a woman such as Kendra has caused him to change his creeping, cheating ways. According to the outlet, Joc said that he also wants to be an inspiration to other men out there that they, too, can find themselves a good woman once they buckle down. Whenever there's a reality TV wedding on the horizon, VH1 loves to swoop in and capitalize on it if they can. There haven't been any formal announcements of Joc and Kendra receiving their own wedding spin-off special or series, but Joc isn't opposed to the idea. He said that he would love to do something of the sort if he got the opportunity, however, he noted that he wouldn't want to take any money for it. The rapper just wants the public to know that it's possible for everyone to change their past behaviors and develop new reputations. Would you tune in and watch Joc and Kendra jump the broom? 4. "Megatron" rapper Nicki Minaj descended on the Power 106 radio station in Los Angeles on Friday for a "Queen Radio" takeover. While there, the 36-year-old was secretive about her mysterious forthcoming project, but she dropped a surprise single for the listening audience. Minaj told DJ Carisma that she wanted to premiere her remix to DaBaby's hit single "Suge" from his chart-topping record, Baby on Baby. She spit a few bars on the track but made sure to honor the original version by keeping a bulk of DaBaby's raps on the track. As far as her next album is concerned, Minaj wasn't giving up any insider information as to what the title could possibly be. "I have two ideas but I'm thinking of going back to 'pink' for old times sake," she said, referencing her former album titles Pink Print and Pink Friday. Although it would be nice, and consistent, for her to stay with a "pink" theme, the rapper admits that she does have one title that has nothing to do with the color. We'll just have to wait and see. Check out her remix to "Suge" and let us know what you think. 5. For most of 2019, Wendy Williams's name was dragged through the media. The news of her divorce from her estranged husband Kevin Hunter was revealed along with rumors that he'd impregnated his longtime mistress. Williams lived in a sober living residence, took a break from hosting her show to get her personal life in order, and was ridiculed on social media by celebrities and the public alike. Many believed that the experience would cause Williams to shift her often scathing remarks on her talk show, but the gossip queen is back in her groove and is as biting as ever. It's been formally announced that Diddy will be returning with another season of Making The Band, and former cast member and Danity Kane singer Aubrey O'Day has had a few words for her former label-head. Aubrey has made repeated claims that Diddy abandoned Danity Kane, verbally abused group members, and dropped them without warning. Wendy discussed the controversy on a recent episode of her show, beginning by calling Aubrey the "Beyoncé of Danity Kane." That was a warm opening, but within seconds the tide turned. "Aubrey, you know I like you, but I'm calling it like I see it," Williams said. "You're more successful at reality TV than you are with music. I don't know one Aubrey or Danity [Kane] song and that's real. Do you? Clap if you do." There were only a few audience members who responded before Williams went on to list the reality television shows Aubrey's been cast in. Jason Kempin/Getty Images "So, she's good at that, but maybe not so much with the singing," Williams continued. "Listen, Aubrey, sour grapes. He might not have finished with Danity Kane but maybe that's because you all thought you were bigger than you really were and you weren't listening to the master. Like I said before: Lil Kim was created by Puffy. She's a legend and an icon. Faith Evans. Mary J. Blige. Biggie Smalls. Janelle Monae. French Montana. Machine Gun Kelly. Where do you wanna go with this Aubrey? Get your facts." Aubrey caught wind of Williams's words and made the talk show host an offer. "Ma, u got so much to say when I’m not sitting in front of you, why don’t you be a real one and run your mouth like this face to face. I dare you. I’ll clear my f*cking calendar. 8. The battle between the Hot Girls and Hot Boys this summer has been real. With Megan Thee Stallion leading for the ladies and Future reppin' for the guys, things have been intense. But what's a summer without an official playlist? Although Future became the de facto leader of the Hot Boys, he simply embraced the title for what it is and came through with a Spotify playlist titled, "Hot Boy Summer." He decided to drop this before Megan had the chance to so you know the Hot Girls were begging for their own soundtrack for the summer. Megan had to let the Hot Girls know that their soundtrack was coming. After Future released his playlist, she quoted the playlist and wrote, "Lol don’t worry HOT GIRLS I’m abt to drop my playlist brb." Within two hours, the "Hot Girl Summer" playlist was live on Spotify and included songs from herself, Chris Brown, Young Thug, City Girls, YG, Lil Kim, Remy Ma, and more. As for Future, he actually included some Megan Thee Stallion to the playlist, along with other songs from himself, DJ Mustard, Meek Mill, Drake, and more. With a month and a half left in the summer, we're going to see who ends up winning the summer. The Hot Boys or Hot Girls? Peep Future and Megan Thee Stallion's respective playlists below. 9. As a celebrity, you have to deal with constantly being under the watchful eye of your fans (as well as those who aren't really your fans but still watch your every move and give their two cents). And in a day and age where modes of communication are more accessible than ever before, and you have the ability to hide behind your screen, it seems as though everyone and their mama always has something to say. For celebrities especially, they often get dehumanized, when people forget that they are people too, and decide to question everything they do, or think that just because they know their personal lives, they can suss out their every intention. While some are able to sit back and take the criticism with grace, more often than not in the outspoken hip hop community, if you step out of line, you can expect to get an age-old clap back. This was the case with Mary J Blige when she appeared on stage this Thursday for her Nas accompanied "Royalty Tour" in Nashville. Johnny Louis/Getty Images The 48-year-old hip hop and soul icon was right in the middle of delivering a heartfelt speech to the audience about keeping your head up when dealing with haters and negativity, when someone offstage very rudely cut her off to yell out to her to "shut the f*ckk up." Blige held her composure as she continued her speech, but at one point brought it up again when she said in a very strong voice, "and for the person that's been in here all night saying Mary shut the f--k up, YOU shut the f--k up." The crowd burst into applause and cheers, letting Mary know they have her back. View the full article

  12. Nike and Kyrie Irving have officially announced plans to release a special edition SpongeBob SquarePants sneaker collection next month in celebration of the show's 20th anniversary. The pack will include colorways inspired by SpongeBob & Patrick, as well as Squidward, Sandy and Mr. Krabs. Ahead of the release, Kyrie spoke with GQ Magazine about all things SpongeBob SquarePants, which included some talk about where each of the characters would fit in on a basketball court. Here's what Irving had to say about that, according to GQ's Cam Wolf: Squidward is a shooting guard. He's the most selfish one. He just shoots his own shots. He doesn't care what's going on. SpongeBob is really like... positionless. He can play the 3/4, go to the 1. Mr. Krabs is like the power forward. He's literally the muscle of the group. He's always giving different business ideas on how to spend money and like, “The Krusty Krab is the best ever!” and he's competing with the Chum Bucket. He's like the Charles Oakley. Weight god who's coming in, but there are also teaching moments in it. In regards to which character would be the most talented, the All Star point guard told GQ, "Sandy, easy." Irving was also asked to name his favorite character (SpongeBob), as well as other details about how the SpongeBob x Nike sneaker collab came to life. 13. Katy Perry recently headed to court to fight a suit filed against her by a trio of American Christian rappers, who claimed the pop star copied the beat from her 2013 hit single "Dark Horse" from them. She attended the downtown LA court, with the controversial co-defendant, Dr. Luke - her long-time co-writer who she previously denied in court papers tried to rape her. Just as a backstory, fellow pop star, Ke$ha, claimed in an old text to Lady Gaga that Luke raped Perry, also admitting that he had raped and bullied her. The two have been in a very long-running legal dispute as Luke denies all allegations though. On a completely lighter note, the singer caused a wave of laughter to erupt when she made one particularoffer after technical issues ensued, preventing her song to be played. Amy Sussman/Getty Images Perry and Dr Luke, along with four other individuals associated with the single, are being sued by rappers Flame and D.A. Truth, and the track in question's creator, Chike Ojukwu, who claim that Perry's hit has the same intro as their 2007 song "Joyful Noise." Perry and her team denied the claim, citing over 25 minutes of evidence and insisting that they had never heard of the rappers or their song. When technical issues prevented her song being played for the judge to asses, she caused the packed courtroom to burst into laughter when she suggested: 'I could perform it for you live.' 14. There was a time when NBA analysts thought the Oklahoma City Thunder could be a dynasty that rivaled the likes of the Miami Heat, who were also phenomenal at the time. With Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and even Serge Ibaka at the helm, the Thunder had the pieces to be an all-time great team. In the end, the Thunder only went to one NBA Finals and got blown out by LeBron James and the Heat. After that, Harden was sent to the Houston Rockets and KD left for a superteam. Westbrook was left all alone and eventually got Paul George. When George left for the Los Angeles Clippers, he asked for a trade and now, he's reunited with Harden on the Rockets. Both players are seen as ball-dominant forces and going into next season, chemistry will certainly be an issue. At a recent Adidas event, Harden finally spoke about the Westbrook trade and said he's not worried at all about the team's cohesion. "When you have talent like that, it works itself out," Harden explained. "You got guys that are willing to sacrifice, it always works itself out.” With the Golden State Warriors in decline, the Rockets finally have a golden opportunity to become the best team in the Western Conference so it will be interesting to see how they're able to make it work. 16. Kawhi Leonard seems to have hurt some feelings with the way he handled his free agency decision. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Los Angeles Lakers felt like they "got played" by Leonard, who ultimately decided to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers after some of the Lakers' other free agent targets had signed elsewhere. As Windhorst explains on his recent podcast: “I’ve heard complaints in the days after the signing. I heard complaints from the Lakers that they got played. I heard complaints from the Raptors that Kawhi came in and asked for the sun, the moon, the stars then left them at the altar.” "The implication: Leonard knew all along wasn’t signing with the Lakers, waited a week into free agency so other top free agents would commit elsewhere then announced his decision just to sabotage the Lakers.” Although it seemed like Leonard was on the cusp of signing with the Lakers, the Undefeated's Marc J. Spears recently reported there was "no way" Kawhi wanted to team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Other reports suggest that Kawhi reached out to fellow two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant, as well as Kyrie Irving, in an effort to convince another superstar to join him on the Clippers. As we know, Leonard eventually persuaded Paul George to request a trade out of OKC. View the full article

  19. For Hip-Hop lovers coming up in the late 80's and 90's, Todd-1 was a household name. The rapper/executive producer/TV host was one of the few people that was a staple on both MTV and BET as a popular host. Today, the tragic news has arrived that Todd-1, whose real name was Todd Muhammad, died on Wednesday of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 49, after the blod clot made its way into his bloodstream. Todd-1's path to success is truly inspiring. He went from an MTV intern to production assistant to an associate producer that managed to work with the famed Ted Demme - who created YO! MTV Raps. Starting with MTV's "Fade to Black" Todd soon transformed into "MTV Jams." What set him apart and captivated his audience, was his offbeat hosting style that was chock full of humor and lessons alike. He worked with a whole host of OG names in the game, from Babyface and Janet Jackson, to Shaquille O'Neal, TLC and Queen Latifah, amongst others. At one point he transitioned into BET for a short, but significant period of time. Throughout his time on this earth, Todd tried to do it all, he worked with Mike Tyson's record label, NBA star Derrick Coleman's 44 Ways Entertainment, the Source Magazine's "Source All Access" and as a producer for "Interscope Presents The Next Episode." Before his untimely death, he was even working with Rolling Out magazine and podcasting. One of hip hops pioneering feminists, and rap legend, MC Lyte took to Instagram to mourn the loss, "gone too soon," she captioned the sentiment, "a beautiful stand-up guy and man of his word. ." Activist and artist - and his sister in Islam - Queen YaNasda also mourned the loss of the upstanding individual, making a statement about the wisdom he imparted wherever he went. "Todd-1 was such a dope person across the board. I never missed an episode of MTV Jams when he was hosting it because he was soo funny and such a great interviewer to so many celebs. In a time of no social media we was able to get an inside look of many of my favorite celebrities because of the grand personality of Todd-1. Todd-1 became my close friend in 2014 and we were a part of a close cipher called The Allah Team. We would always catch up on life and whenever he needed relationship advice he always called me. Whenever Todd got a new project he was working on whether it was a podcast with Headkrack or hosting a talk show on Rolling Out he was always trying to figure out ways to get me involved. He was a very loyal and consistent person. A true treasure to us all. I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend whom I call a brother Todd Muhammad aka Todd-1. Allah (God) truly sent back a gem to the Hip-Hop community." View the full article

While it may be true that rappers do love their Jordans, it's also true that they have a wide taste in sneakers. Perhaps the most unlikely hero in hip-hop sneaker culture is the Clarks Originals Wallabee. The shoe has a very interesting silhouette that is much different than what most people are used to. Regardless, it's stood the test of time and the brand continues to release new models and colorways. This Saturday, July 20th, Clarks is coming out with a brand new collaboration featuring the Wu-Tang Clan who just came off the 25th anniversary of their first album. This collab will include three colorways of the classic Wallabee which will be Brown, Maple, and Navy. These sneakers will be made of suede and have a plethora of fine details that will appeal to the biggest of Wu-Tang fans. 25. One of the most popular collaborations of the year was the Sacai x Nike LDWaffle which came out in two colorways. There were also two high-top blazer collaborations that came out alongside the pack and those were a hit amongst sneakerheads as well. Nike knows better than anyone when something works in their favor so it shouldn't be a surprise that they are following up the success of the shoe with even more colorways. Just yesterday, the official images of three new version were dropped and so far, they're looking pretty great. Two of these three colorways are more subtle, while the other one is colorful and will certainly stand out on your feet. The first colorway is called “Summit White/Wolf Grey” and has more of a bright white aesthetic that is great for the Summer. For those who want something more lowkey, there is the “Black/Anthracite” model and for more colorful sneakerheads, you have the "Pine Green/Clay Orange/Del Sol" colorway. As of right now, there is no release date for these shoes so hang tight and stay tuned for updates. Rumors suggest these are coming in early September although that is subject to change.
