1. Kaley Cuoco stepped out Thursday wearing an updo we know all too well. The actress posed at a celebration of the 100th episode of her show Big Bang Theory wearing a simple cream-colored dress and a knotted hairstyle that greatly resembled Gwen Stefani‘s late ’90s “I’m Just a Girl” stage style. While Kaley went for...Read more» View the full article

 9. You will be forgiven for not expecting nuance in the promotional material for "The Expendables 2." Despite what the marketing team might think, there doesn't need to be much other than a list of names against a black background, maybe crafted out of bullets or fire or blood. You know those names -- Stallone, Statham, Li, Willis, Van Damme, and Schwarzenegger, to name a few -- and what the first "Expendables" movie was about. The new one-sheet shows Stallone standing in the frame of a "2" carved out of concrete, lit ablaze against a rocky foreground. Check that out, plus the first "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" poster, beyond the jump. Stallone is holding a gun, and he means business, all business. How could you expect anything different? "Expendables 2" drops in the summer, when we'll all be thirsting for just a little more action than the norm. On the contrary, the poster for "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" teases the action, rather than dumping us right in it. There's Honest Abe sitting in a chair underneath a full moon, holding his hat in one hand and an axe in the other. We can't see his face, but we don't need to. In another poster, Abe holds the same pose while sitting in the Oval Office, always a reliable hub for undead-killing action. The serious tone is befitting of the very serious official synopsis, which reads, "'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation." Because, yes, all of that happened. The Confederacy was led by vampires, and Abe himself rode out on horseback to slay their leader, Jefferson Dracula. His hat was made of magic, his beard made of silver, and night hunters everywhere trembled wherever he walked. I need to believe it; I want to believe it. "Vampire Hunter" hits theaters next summer, on June 22. 10. By Lauren Kearney Etta James, best known for her beautiful rendition of the ballad “At Last,” is now terminally ill, according to her live-in doctor, Dr. Elaine James. The doctor asked for fans to pray for the Blues legend who has been suffering from leukemia, dementia and kidney failure for the past few years. The 73-year-old singer was hospitalized earlier this year in May for treatment of the blood infection sepsis and a urinary tract infection, but as of the last two weeks, her leukemia has been declared incurable. Dr. James—who is of no relation to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer—told Riverside Press Enterprise that she wanted to go public to let fans know the severity of the situation. "They know she's been sick, but not how sick," she said, adding that Etta James is unable to communicate well at this stage in her sickness. Etta James is leaving behind quite a legacy. Her music career spanned over the last five decades and has inspired legends-in-the-making, such as Beyonce and Adele. She is included in the Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time for “At Last.” View the full article

 12. By William E. Ketchum III With a solo project, group album, and a release from his protégé all on the way, Cam’ron is gearing up to have a busy 2012. In a video interview with Trap.TV, Cam’ron took out his smartphone to show the freshly-emailed cover art for his upcoming Boss of All Bosses Vol. 3 mixtape with Vado and DJ Drama. Then he announced that his next solo album would arrive next April. Cam said that araabMuzik produced 10 of the 17 songs on Boss Of All Bosses 3 and that the only guest emcee on the project is Jim Jones. “I’m always open to new production cause at the end of the day it ain’t about a name, to me it’s about what’s hot,” he explained. “It ain’t about the name.” A different promotional video has state that the project will be released on Friday (December 16). Cam’ron also confirmed that Vado has officially signed to Interscope Records, but release details for the reunion album by The Diplomats are still pending. “It’s definitely coming out, but we don’t know what label,” Cam’ron said. When asked if Interscope would be the label home, he responded, “They’re negotiating, they put some numbers up. [The other labels] are undisclosed.” During Labor Day weekend this summer, Cam’ron dropped Boss Of All Bosses 2.8: Road to 3.0. Since then, he has leaked songs and released viral and music videos. At the end of the video clip, Cam’ron said that his next studio album should be available in April 2012. 17. Hollywood loves its remakes, and fairy tales are the easiest money of all. What child or adult in America isn't familiar with the story of Jack and the beanstalk, even if they're not clear on the specifics? Then again, the specifics can be largely invented based on whatever tired parent is telling the story to his kid: there are some beans, a beanstalk, some giants and a guy named Jack who fights them or tries to, at least. In this regard, "Jack the Giant Killer" looks wholly familiar. The trailer opens with Nicholas Hoult as the titular Jack, palming a fistful of magic beans while a serious man tells him to be careful. Well, you know how it goes: the beans fall in some soil and water, then shoot up up thousands of feet into the sky, carrying Jack's house and the princess of the realm with it. To get her back, Jack must climb into the air and navigate the world of the giants without getting squashed. A war breaks out, of course, and a bunch of flaming trees get tossed through the air (danger!). How the giants lived in the clouds defies all conventional rules of aerodynamics, but hey, it's a movie about cloud giants. We'll let it go. "Giant Killer," directed by Bryan Singer, also stars Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Ewan McGregor and Bill Nighy. It'll come out next June, so you know where this is going: "Avengers" crossover. Yep, it'll end with Thor landing in the clouds, swinging his big hammer and swearing, "I say thee nay!" to a bunch of confused giants. CAN'T WAIT! 19. Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj are, without a doubt, two of the most influential artists in the game but they aren’t necessarily known for advancing education via their music. However, a Florida education company recently bestowed the pair with Teacher Of The Year Awards, and the CEO of the company stands by the seemingly bizarre decision. The Better Education Place, nestled in South Florida, awarded the Best Male and Best Female Teacher awards to Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, who both beat out actual educators, judged across several categories. From the media release: “Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj have won quite a few music awards this year. Now they can add one more award to their mantle, teacher of the year. Better Education Place an education company based in South Florida announced the winners of its first annual teacher of the year awards.” Better Education Place president Melvin El, who also doubles as education-themed rapper MC Ant Tanna, believes that Wayne and Minaj have the tools teachers need to command a classroom. “Apparently students are drawn in by the ‘swagger,’ said Mr. El. “If you are a teacher today and you don’t have any swagger you are going to struggle to get your students attention. It turns out a teacher can learn a lot from Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.” BEP did acknowledge that Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj have lacked a bit in the content portion of the competition, but the company's coupling of hip-hop and education is at the core of their business, thus deeming the rappers worthy of awards. 20. By and large, the “Sherlock Holmes" movies are a more-or-less faithful adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s sharp-eyed sleuth, albeit with some slo-mo bareknuckle boxing thrown in for good measure. There’s Holmes, cracking wise; there’s Watson, looking perturbed. What more do you need? As you can see in this newly released clip, not much. Watch an exclusive "Sherlock Holmes" clip!</p>But there’s more to take from Doyle’s original stories than a character sketch and a setting. Doyle’s tales were filled with twists, turns, and unique plots built up and concluded in a handful of pages. No one’s saying the movie studios need to adapt these stories exactly; they’re firmly rooted in the societal attitudes of the time, and would come off a little stilted. Still, there’s plenty of concepts and wrinkles to lift for any future “Sherlock Holmes" movies. Below, here’s five stories we think would do the trick. 1. The Adventure of Red-Headed League: Big movies need minor villains, and there’s none quirkier than the self-appointed Red-Headed League. The villains were a pair of thieves who contrived to invent a special organization for red-headed men, under the guise of defrauding the men who showed up to apply. With a few changes, they could be an actual organization of evil gingers, though that might not play so well in the United Kingdom. It would be just bizarre enough to work, and just inconsequential to allow Holmes to brush them off with relative ease. Jackie Earle Haley could star as the most nefarious red-head! 2. The Five Orange Pips: Similarly speaking, “The Five Orange Pips" finds the Ku Klux Klan terrorizing a local Englishman. In Doyle’s story, the Klan are treated more like a mysterious cult than the historical artifact they’re taught as today. Introducing them as a minor presence would be appropriate for the time period; they’d also automatically register as a villain on account of, y’know, the racism. 3. The Hound of the Baskervilles: This is the granddaddy of all Holmes stories, a full-length novel with the detective’s greatest mystery. It’s a murder story posing as a ghost tale, as Holmes and Watson are called to a small town to investigate some mysterious deaths at the foot of the so-called Hound. With Holmes and Watson weaving their way through tangled family trees and double-talking villagers, they’ve got to deduce whether the Hound is real, which isn’t solved until the story’s climax. It would be a fearsome image on screen, and an excellent source of tension. What’s scarier than a giant ghost dog who eats people? 4. The Adventure of the Speckled Band: This is a fairly conventional mystery -- a death attributed to “the speckled band," which turns out to be a snake after some clever sleuthing. But that revelation only comes after a solid chunk of misdirection and more deaths, and the delivery system -- the snake crawls through a ventilator after being activated by a whistle -- is ingenious enough to work. If you want to visualize a death on screen, they don’t get more jarring than an adder leaping out of a vent onto someone’s throat. 5. The Sign of the Four: Robert Downey Jr.’s had his fair share of trouble with substance abuse, which is why some eagle-eyed pundits pointed to Tony Stark’s alcoholism as a bit of meta-casting on Marvel’s part. That issue might rear its head in “Iron Man 3," or it might not. But Sherlock Holmes is also an addict -- in the original stories, he’s quite verbal about his love of cocaine, which wasn’t quite a universally maligned drug in the 19th century. In “The Sign of the Four," Doyle addresses Holmes’ drug problem quite explicitly as he tries to foil a nefarious plot involving the Indian Rebellion of 1857, stolen treasure, and secret agreements up the wazoo. The movies have completely abandoned Holmes’ addiction, but a third movie might hint at his increasing mania in slightly darker terms than just, “Oh, that Holmes, he so wacky." Of course, that might be a step too serious for these generally light-hearted adaptations. The basic plot of “Four" would serve just as well as the backbone for a third movie, without getting into heady territory. Which "Sherlock Holmes" stories do you want to see adapted next?
