Ramírez had a minor role in "The Bourne Ultimatum," but his star-making turn came in the three-part miniseries "Carlos," where he plays one of the most notorious terrorists of all time. The visually stunning film tells the story of a young girl listening to a story. When the focus of the movie switches to the fantasy land, the audience experiences everything as the young girl does. Not everything makes sense, and there are clear points where she misunderstands what the narrator is actually telling her. As a one-film justification for owning a Blu-ray player, "The Fall" works not only as a one-of-a-kind visual masterpiece, but also an endearing tale about why we like stories—and movies for the matter—so much. You might be surprised to learn that some of the supporting players in "28 Weeks Later" include Jeremy Renner, Rose Byrne and Idris Elba. No, he doesn't behead lords for the fun of it, nor does he own a direwolf. But he does have the red woman -- and that is more than enough. Where's He From? Baratheon keeps his home on Dragonstone, which once belonged to the virtually extinct House Targaryen. Dragonstone, a relatively small and secluded island just east of Westeros, is well within striking distance of King's Landing, a fact that's not lost on Stannis. The King's Court Stannis is surrounded by a diverse group of companions. Maester Cressen, the man who raised him, remains in Stannis' service on Dragonstone. Also advising the wouldbe king is Davos Seaworth, a former smuggler turned knight in Stannis' employ. Finally, there is Melisandre, the red priestess of Asshai. She believes Stannis to be an ancient hero born again anew, one who will lead the Seven Kingdoms with the conviction of the Lord of the Light. It's a notion that does not sit well with Cressen or Davos, even as Stannis becomes an increasingly more devout worshiper of Melisandre's strange religion. What Does He Do? Anything he can to win the Iron Throne, which he believes is his by rights. That means spreading the word far and wide that Joffrey is a product of Lannister incest and not a true born Baratheon, confronting his very own brother on the battlefield, and relying on dark magic to aid his cause. In essence, there's very little that Stannis won't do in pursuit of the crown. Do We Like Him? That's... complicated. Stannis is an interesting one: not as outright loathsome as Joffrey but certainly not someone you'd want to have a beer with. Stannis, more than anything, is fascinating. As a character, I think he's one of the finest in George R.R. Martin's entire saga. But that doesn't mean he's a nice guy... far from it, in fact. What do you think of Stannis Baratheon? 7. By Rob Markman Nas has collaborated with some of the most legendary hip-hop producers in the span of his career, beginning with DJ Premier and Pete Rock on his debut album Illmatic, and for his upcoming 10th album Life is Good the Queens MC tapped a small batch of producers who would help him craft the sound and vibe he desired. "I wanted to work on a record where it's just not a lot of people," Nas said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday. "So it's mostly No I.D., Saalam Remi, Da Internz; those are the ones who basically gave me the music. They knew what I wanted; they sat with me." On 2001's Stillmatic, Remi contributed the beat for "What Goes Around" and then came back the next year to give Esco two singles for his God's Son LP ("Made You Look" and "I Can"). No I.D. and Nas have some history as well. In 2007, the Nasty one hopped on the No I.D.-produced cut "Success" off of Jay-Z's American Gangster album, and late last year, Nas, Common and the Chicago producer collaborated on "Ghetto Dreams." "I needed producers that's gonna be there and get into what I want to get into, have the conversation and start making the records based off of what I'm looking for," God's Son said. Heavy D also lent a production hand prior to his death last year, making the beat for Life Is Good's latest single, "The Don." Nas didn't find out that Heavy sent the music for him to use until after he died however. "I looked up to Heav," he said. "He's an icon, a music icon." 9. By Jocelyn Vena Drake promised that the Rihanna-featured video for "Take Care" would debut last Friday and he later apologized for the delay, because fans...are still waiting. In the meantime, Rihanna has seen the completed video and she promises that it's something to look forward to. "I can't wait to see what all my fans think. I saw it a couple of days ago. I love it," she told Capital FM. "It's beautiful. It's different from anything Drake has ever done." Ri was spotted heading to one of Drake's shows earlier this week in London when he performed at the O2 arena. Post-show, the twosome were spotted at London hotspot Low. Perhaps she saw the video during their hangout session? Rihanna and Drake previously appeared together in her video for "What's My Name?" In the clip, the real-life pals played a lovey-dovey couple, and fans have been waiting to see what these two had in store for the "Take Care" video since February, when word of the shoot went public. Director Yoann Lemoine called the three-day shoot "very minimal" and "mellow," adding, "They seemed to be super close, and that's what I wanted for the video. They fit together pretty well, so it was just easy. "There's a lot of space in the video, and I wanted the visuals to pay tribute to that," he continued. "It pays tribute to nature. When I listened to the track, I was seeing a landscape ... involving animals and massive landscapes. I won't say too much, but it's very surprising that there are very few elements in it. It's very simple but there's this big sense of emptiness in it. It's not narrative at all, and it involves animals." What are you expecting from the "Take Care" video? 12. By Gil Kaufman A coroner's report confirmed that Whitney Houston's cause of death was accidental drowning, potentially triggered by complications from heart disease and cocaine use, and new reports are claiming that there were traces of cocaine found in the singer's room at the time of her death. Whitney Houston's Autopsy Report To Offer Details On Cause Of Death According to TMZ, documents from investigators do not reveal the quantity of the drug found but say simply that among the items recovered by police was "white, powdery remnants." Quoting unnamed sources, the site said the powder tested positive for cocaine. The L.A. County coroner revealed last week that accidental drowning was the official cause of Houston's death, adding that cocaine use and heart disease were also contributing factors. According to the coroner's report, traces of cocaine were found in Houston's system at the time of death, along with Xanax, Flexeril, marijuana and Benadryl, which officials said played no role in her death. At the time, it was reported that no cocaine was found in the singer's room when she died, but coroner spokesman Craig Harvey noted that cocaine metabolites were found in her system, leading them to conclude that Houston was a chronic user of the drug. A number of prescription pills were recovered in the Beverly Hills hotel room, but officials from the coroner's office said there wasn't an unusual amount of medication. Houston, 48, was laid to rest in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey, on February 18 at an invite-only funeral service at the New Hope Baptist Church in a service that included Stevie Wonder, mentor Clive Davis and CeCe Winans. TMZ also reported that Beverly Hills Police detectives are not investigating the rumors that a friend of Houston's allegedly removed cocaine from the room following her death because they are not convinced evidence of the drug was swept away before their arrival. Houston struggled with drug and alcohol issues for many years before her death. View the full article
13. It’s a cheerful day for the copyright industry. In France the controversial “graduated response” law (Hadopi) has evaporated unauthorized file-sharing. A new report from the Hadopi office, conveniently written in English so it can be used by lobbyists all around the world, is claiming the following. “Benchmarking studies covering all of the sources available shows a clear downward trend in illegal P2P downloads. There is no indication that there has been a massive transfer in forms of use to streaming technologies or direct downloads.” The report goes on to cite a variety of statistics ranging from a 29 percent decrease in visits to “pirate” sites in 2011, to a 66 percent drop in illegal file-sharing traffic in France in the same period. Impressive figures indeed, and Hadopi is quick to point out that it’s directly related to their three-strikes law. While we’re not going to dispute the validity of the provided statistics, it is worth pointing out that there’s something missing from the report. Something big. For more than a decade the entertainment industry has claimed that digital piracy is the main cause for the gradual decline in revenues. So if piracy is down massively in France, one would expect that the revenues are soaring, right? But they’re not. If we look at the French music industry we see that overall revenues were down by 3.9 percent in 2011. Likewise, the French movie industry is still going through a rough period with revenues dropping 2.7 percent in 2011. Ironically, an industry insider even blamed online piracy for this drop. To sum it up. in 2011 online piracy was slashed in half according to the Hadopi report, but despite this unprecedented decline the movie and music industries managed to generate less revenue than in 2010. If we follow the logic employed by the anti-piracy lobby during the past decade, this means that piracy is actually boosting sales. But that would be a silly conclusion wouldn’t it? As we’ve said in the past, we think that the entertainment industries are overlooking a very significant third factor – technology. In the music industry, for example, highly profitable CDs are being replaced by less profitable MP3s, subscription services and free streaming services such as YouTube. It wouldn’t be going too far to say that the Internet has revolutionized the music industry. File-sharing is obviously a by-product of this digital revolution, but its effect on revenues has been much overstated. The music industry continues to blame piracy for its troubles, even though digital sales, which directly compete with piracy, are booming. Could it be that the format shift from physical to digital music, and the change in buying habits that came along with it, may explain the decline in revenue more than piracy can? The Hadopi report is suggesting that this may indeed be the case. The worst part is of course that this is not how the anti-piracy lobbyists will use the report. That would kill their business. Instead, they will use the report to show how immensely effective anti-piracy laws can be, lobbying for similarly draconian laws all over the world. On April 10, the rapper is appearing on the series premiere of SyFy’s “Dream Machines,” a reality show that takes popular vehicles from TV, film, and comic books and brings them to life. Following Floridian brothers Marc and Shanon Parker of Parker Brothers Concepts, each hour-long episode will feature high-profile clientele or large organizations asking the brothers and their quirky crewman to make their fantastical visions a reality, with 50 as their first customer. 50 Cent Announces 'The Lost Tape' With DJ Drama Mr. Jackson will appear in the first two episodes of the series, as his request fell nothing short of extreme. In the episode titled“50 Cent’s Jet Car,” 50 asks for a Formula One race car with a futuristic space ship exterior. His request comes at the expense of brother Shanon’s phobia of flying when the duo took to a dog-fight in actual jet-fighters to get inspiration for 50’s new whip. Then, to make things even worse on the Parker bros, 50 moves the deadline for the completed vehicle up, jeopardizing the usable success of his design. 50 Cent Announces July Release For Fifth Album Will 50’s vision become a reality or a nightmare? “Dream Machines” airs on April 10th at 10pm on SyFy. 18. Seann William Scott knows what type of character he usually plays. He broke out thanks to the antics of a fast-talking sex maniac, Steve Stifler from the "American Pie" movies, and ended up playing similar characters throughout his career. The Seann William Scott of "Goon," however, is an entirely different monster, a gentle one. Doug Glatt is good at one thing: kicking the crap out of guys. One thing Doug is not good at is hockey. Despite that combination, the owner of a local Canadian hockey club recruits Doug to save a dying team. MTV News talked with Scott and his co-star and the film's co-writer Jay Baruchel about the character Doug and why there aren't many hockey movies. For Doug, Scott simply enjoyed the chance to play a character that had more to him than Stifler. "It was just an awesome experience because it was so well-written, such a huge challenge for me to play a three dimensional character for once," Scott said. "It was much more comforting and enjoyable to play a guy who's nice and a good guy. I think it was easier for me to do that than to play a total jackass." Baruchel wrote Doug and the film with a very particular viewer in mind. As a young Canadian hockey fan, Baruchel wanted a movie for enthusiasts like himself. "[Hockey] is part of the reason I get up in the morning. It’s my favorite sport. It’s my religion," Baruchel said. "The marketplace is fairly barren when it comes to hockey flicks. I think there been precious few good ones for most of my life. It was just our chance to give Canadian kids a movie I feel like they've been waiting for, for a long time. Whoever digs this movie, we want them to connect to it, but we made it with a very specific group of people in mind." Do you want to see more hockey movies? 19. Despite some negative reviews for the original, "Clash of the Titans," the "Wrath of the Titans" is upon us (in 3D, no less) to follow-up its $500 million predecessor. For the second adventure of Sam Worthington's Perseus, daddy Zeus comes a-callin' once again to ask his demi-god son to, you know, save all of mankind…again. Though no one releases the Kraken, there are plenty of Greek monsters to go around. Here are our five reasons to check out "Wrath of the Titans" this weekend. Sam Worthington Worthington has occupied a weird space within the realm of action stars. He led "Avatar" onto become the biggest movie of all time, but essentially no one claimed for that success other than James Cameron. Three years later, Worthington has starred in a handful of actioners and a drama or two, but despite consistently good performances, critics and audiences seem lukewarm to the Aussie. In "Wrath," he does the best he can with Perseus; he's always watchable and is easily the strongest element of the main quest storyline. With the right character, Worthington could conceivably hoist himself into the upper tier of action stars. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes It was easy to dismiss Liam Neeson's and Ralph Fiennes' work in "Clash" as a Cash-in of the Titans, but here they are, back again. Despite their history as on-screen nemeses, the two actors consider each other best friends and brothers, and it shows on screen. Both grown men look like they could not be having more fun hamming it up in false beards and long hair with their best bud. Bill Nighy It doesn't take working with his best friend for Bill Nighy to squeeze every bit of fun out of a ridiculous character. As Hephaestus, the fallen god, Nighy literally spends most of his on-screen time yelling at an owl made of metal. The performance is odd and fun, and one that really adds a lot of spice to the otherwise gritty world. The Creatures One of the benefits of having so much of the focus set on the action is all the great monsters you're sure to encounter. There's the chimera, the cyclops, and two dudes that have to share a set of legs. It all leads to the big daddy of them all, Kronos, Perseus' granpappy, who is literally a mountain-sized monster made of lava. Think about that: a mountain-sized monster made of lava. It's Brain-Off Fun One of the greatest strengths of "Wrath of the Titans" is also one of its biggest problems. The film demands almost nothing of the audience. You don't need to pay very close attention or really care about things happening on the screen, and you will get the full effect of the film. The tight 100-minute run time doesn't follow characters as they evolve and grow throughout the story. It transports them from monster to monster to explosion as the audience looks at the screen. Depending on what you want from your Greek mythology action movies, this will ultimately decide whether you like "Wrath" or not. Are you going to see "Wrath of the Titans" this weekend? 20. By Rob Markman Hip-hop will make its way to Hollywood on May 22, when MTV2 premieres the new game show series "Hip Hop Squares." The show will be an updated, musical spin on the classic show "Hollywood Squares." Contestants on the show will include Nick Cannon, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Mac Miller and Machine Gun Kelly, with hosting by New York radio DJ Peter Rosenberg. "Jackass" crewmember Bam Margera, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley and Wu-Tang's Ghostface Killah also will appear on the show. " 'Hip Hop Squares' is a great representation of MTV2's new brand filter to deliver smart, funny and relevant content that speaks directly to male Millennials, or 'Malennials,' as we call them," said Paul Ricci, head of programming for MTV2. "The show will refresh an iconic format and create a fun, dynamic series that's unpredictable, heavy on personality and much more 'party' than 'game show.' " If the new incarnation of "Squares" stays true to the original, two contestants (one representing "X," and the other representing "O") will compete for prizes in a trivia-styled game where the show's stars are situated on a giant tic-tac-toe board. The contestants strategically select which square they wish to capture and ask the star seated there a trivia question. After the question is answered, the contestant can choose whether to agree or disagree. If the contestant is right, they capture the square; if he or she is wrong, their opponent wins the square. The first contestant to line up three squares in a row wins the game. "They cross the spectrum from musicians and celebrities to athletes and casual fans of hip-hop," Paul Ricci, MTV2?s programming chief told Entertainment Weekly. "The show will refresh an iconic format and create a fun, dynamic series that's unpredictable, heavy on personality and much more 'party' than 'game show'." Sounds like a ball. Tune into the premiere of "Hip Hop Squares" at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Tuesday, May 22, on MTV2! View the full article

24. By Kate Callahan Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull have teamed up again for Ms. Lopez's new single "Dance Again." The song is a fun dance pop track with a great beat, very much along the lines of their 2011 collaborative effort "On the Floor." The formats of the two songs are very similar; Pitbull opens with a quick line, followed by two repetitive verses and choruses by J. Lo. Then Pitbull raps a verse and the track finishes wraps up with the chorus again. In no way is it the most original song by Lopez but it is definitely upbeat and, as the title implies, danceable. "Dance Again" premiered this morning on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on KIIS-FM and will be available for purchase on iTunes April 2nd. The last time J. Lo stirred up buzz was when she appeared at this year's Oscars in a dazzling skin tight, deep plunging dress. The 42-year-old singer was accompanied by her "What to Expect When You're Expecting" co-star Cameron Diaz to present the awards for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup. While on stage, it seemed like Lopez had a slight wardrobe malfunction that caught the audience’s attention. Lopez's stylist Mariel Haenn later told MTV News that there was not, in fact, any nip-slippage taking place. "There were cups built in and there's no chance that there were any how do you say? 'Slips.' While the dress did give the illusion of sheerness, jokes on everyone who wishes they saw View the full article
