Jordan and Ryan Coogler, the star and director of the indie hit "Fruitvale Station," respectively, are riding high. Their true-life tale has been doing exceptionally well in limited release, and it has, more or less, snapped up every festival award it has encountered. With their first collaboration a bona fide success, the duo may have just found their next project, and it is freaking amazing. According to Deadline, Coogler is set to direct "Creed," a spin-off of the "Rocky" series that would follow Apollo Creed's grandson, and Jordan is now in early talks for the starring role. The report says that "Creed" is Coogler's dream project, intends to make it his follow-up to "Fruitvale Station," and was the director's own idea. Pretty cool, right? That's only half of it. After Coogler told his agency that he wanted to do the project, they put him in touch with Sylvester Stallone, who loved the idea. As it stands now, Stallone will reprise his role as Rocky Balboa and act as a mentor to Jordan's character, who, after growing up in the upper class, decides to become a boxer like his grandpa. The story is without a doubt a strange one, but why not? Coogler and Jordan are two serious up-and-coming talents. Why shouldn't they take on something as ambitious as the Rocky mythology. It sure as hell beats trying to get Stallone back in the ring, and the Italian Stallion's involvement could help keep the spirit of the originals alive. [i]What do you think of the Rocky spin-off? 3. By Nadeska Alexis with reporting by David Gallardo Eventually the soldiers grow up, start their own labels and can afford to gift chains to the bawse who put them on. Meek Mill, who is now helming his own Dreamchasers label did just that this weekend, when he had a chain hand-delivered to Rick Ross on the video set of "50 Plates." Meek couldn't attend the Rich Gang video shoot himself, so he had his boy Tak bring Rozay a brand new gold Dreamchasers chain. Ross seemed pretty satisfied with his new accessory, declaring to the cameras, “That bitch is nasty. My very own personal Dreamchasers piece, a gift from Meek Mill--[I'm] an official Dreamchaser. This sh-- is heavy as f---.” Ross' Philly protege is currently prepping his Dreamchasers 3 mixtape, so he naturally took the opportunity to plus the project on his behalf. "Dreamchasers 3 gon' change the game forever," he added. "Get ready for the Hype Williams-directed 'Levels' video." In the years since it began production, we've heard quite a bit about "47 Ronin," the samurai fantasy epic starring Keanu Reeves, but not a lot of it has been good. The film, which was originally set for a November 2012 release, was delayed due to reshoots, and then rumors of editing room drama began to circulate sometime afterward. But as "World War Z" showed the world earlier this summer, no amount of production trouble can damn a movie entirely, and now that a trailer for "47 Ronin" has hit Yahoo! When his master dies, Kai is freed in order to lead his fellow ronin in revenge. "The samurai become outcast and decide to enact revenge on the person who is responsible for the death of their lord," Reeves said. "47 Ronin" will open in theaters on December 25. It also stars Rinko Kikuchi ("Pacific Rim"), Hiroyuki Sanada ("Lost," "The Wolverine"), and something called a Zombie Boy. [i]What did you think of the first trailer for "47 Ronin"? 9. By James Montgomery Donald Glover is scaling back his appearances on NBC's "Community" — which makes us sad because we watched an episode on an American Airlines' flight once and it was pretty good — though he's not lightening his course load any. Instead, he's returning his focus to his musical alter-ego, Childish Gambino … and based on the new song he's just premiered, we're willing to forgive him for ditching classes at Greendale C.C. Listen to "Centipede" here. The track's called "Centipede," and it's a solid extension of the somnambulant, self-effacing styles he tinkered with on efforts like 2011's Camp (and last year's underrated Royalty mixtape, too). It begins with Glover singing a cappella while a dog barks in the background — someone give him a treat or something — then slowly builds on a stony beat centered around a piano line and some thudding drums. Glover's delivery is as assured and awkward as ever, as he makes mentions of hanging out at his grandma's house and riding the bus, and he works in clever boasts like "More flow, man, than Progressive commercials." Of course, "Centipede" quickly switches into a lament about wronging a woman, and as Glover slowly comes unglued, the song does too, getting ominous and echoey while a longwinded rant about money, respect, and the state of the music industry before disappearing on a few sparse piano chords. It's a thrilling listen, and if this is what we can expect on Gambino's next album — reportedly due in the fall — well, we can't wait. Maybe he should focus on this rap thing full time. 11. By Rachel Samples She may be best known for her collaboration with Mac Miller on “The Way,” but it seems like Ariana Grande can also hang with other rappers. During a recent visit to Power 106 radio station in Los Angeles, the Nickelodeon star turned pop singer impressed everyone with her rendition of Big Sean’s “Guap.” With a smile and a few lyrical stumbles, Grande carried Sean's verses with a little help and encouragement from her friends in the studio. At one point, Grande even admits, “I messed up!” over the cheers and claps from her audience . Grande’s recent single release for “Baby I” has many comparing her vocals and sound to a young Mariah Carey. If this video is any indication of more to come, Grande might add a little more Nicki Minaj to her repertoire alongside her Mariah melodies. 12. Last week an IPSOS study revealed that Norway’s piracy problem is nowhere near as serious as some industry bodies had led people to believe. The report found that since 2008 music piracy has been in steady decline, to a point in 2012 where it sat at just 17.5% of its level four years earlier. Piracy of movies and TV shows has been hit too, both down by about a half over the same period. Against a backdrop of improving availability of licensed services such as Spotify and Netflix, entertainment companies were bound to reap the rewards. However, their insistence that progress would not be possible without tough action against pirate sites has never gone away. And now they’re back again with fresh domain blocking action against a local ISP. “Our attorneys have started preliminary work on getting Telenor to block The Pirate Bay for their customers. Telenor will not do so without an injunction, but we hope it will happen almost immediately when we go to court,” says Willy Johansen, Secretary General of the Norwegian Videograms Association. Together with an alliance of rightsholders, Johansen says a lawsuit will be initiated against Telenor during the next few weeks. The announcement represents a new chapter in a long history of industry legal action against Telenor, which began back in 2009 when IFPI and music rights group TONO tried to force the ISP to block The Pirate Bay. After failure at the District Court and later at the Court of Appeal, the pair eventually conceded that there was no basis for the ISP to block sites under Norwegian law. However, a new law went into action in Norway at the start of this month which means that blocking will now be tested again, this time with the balance tipped in favor of the rightsholders. “TONO lost their case because legislation was not in place to force Telenor to block sites like Pirate Bay. Now we have an opening,” Johansen says. But despite the change in the law Telenor insist they are clear where they stand at the moment. A judgment in 2010 said that Telenor does not have to block The Pirate Bay and the ISP says as far as they are concerned, that ruling is still in place. “Telenor does not engage in censorship. No one has ordered us to block access to The Pirate Bay, so we are not,” says Knut Sollid, Telenor’s Regional Head of Information. With Norway’s new copyright law specially crafted to allow for site blocking, it seems almost certain that Telenor will be forced to block The Pirate Bay. Once that happens, other ISPs will be required to do the same. Johansen has also warned that his organization has a list of other sites that they’d like to be blocked too. The Pirate Bay, he says, is only the beginning. 14. By Maurice Bobb It was only a matter of time before Timbaland, a long-time friend, mentor and producer for late R&B star Aaliyah, spoke up about her recent posthumous collaborations with Drake (“Enough Said”) and Chris Brown (Don’t Think They Know”). To put it mildly, the multi-platinum beat maestro doesn't approve. “In music, people always say, ‘I’m going to do a song with Aaliyah.' It will never work,” Timbo told Revolt TV in a recent interview. “Chris Brown got a record, it won’t work. Drake can go do a record with Aaliyah, it ain’t gonna work.” The beloved "One In A Million" chanteuse passed away in 2001 in a plane crash after a music video shoot, but her legacy continues as both Drizzy and Breezy clamored to feature her unused vocals in the songs. Both songs reminded Aaliyah’s fans of her powerful voice, but lacked a significant ingredient: Timbaland’s production. “Aaliyah music only work with its soulmate, which is me,” Timbaland said, condemning any future releases, which include Drake’s reported Aaliyah album, which doesn’t include him or and Missy Elliot. At the tail end of his conversion, the Magna Carta Holy Grail producer dropped another juicy little nugget that had nothing to do with Aaliyah, but instead about his upcoming collaboration with Queens rap legend Nas. “I told Jay this…I said the person who gets me from hip hop now, they album’s gonna be phenomenal and that’s Nas,” he said, excitedly. 19. Timbaland's been a busy man. It doesn't look like we'll be getting his solo album anytime soon, but after working on The 20/20 Experience and Magna Carta Holy Grail, he's got his hands full with Nas' upcoming 11th album, which already includes one potential hit featuring both Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z. Timb told Revolt TV that he's producing a bulk of the album, and one of the completed tracks is called "Sinatra in the Sands," with some bars from Jay and vocals from JT. "Nas got a song right now with him, Jay and Justin that’s completely stupid," he revealed excitedly. "It's called "Sinatra in the Sands" and Justin sounds like Frank Sinatra. Jay was like, man what you gon' do with that record B?" Nas and Justin both contributed vocals to Hov's "BBC" on Magna Carta Holy Grail, so that'll make the trio's second collaboration for the year. As for Justin's Frank Sinatra chops...we saw that on display when he performed "New York, New York" during his "Legends of the Summer" tour with Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium last week, using the song to introduce Hov's "Empire State of Mind." 25. PayPal is widely known for their aggressive stance towards BitTorrent sites, Usenet providers and file-hosting services, but a new development suggests that VPN providers can suffer the same fate too. PayPal has stopped providing payment services to the Swedish based VPN provider iPredator. In addition, all the organization’s funds have been frozen. iPredator is commonly known as the “Pirate Bay” VPN as it was launched by the old Pirate Bay crew in 2009, but it’s currently operated by an independent non-profit foundation. Ipredator and Pirate Bay founder Peter Sunde informs TorrentFreak that this disconnection came without prior warning and with no explanation from PayPal as to why the organization is no longer allowed to accept payments. PayPal simply stated that there is “an issue with the account.” For Sunde and his team the disconnection comes at an unfortunate time. Just three weeks ago iPredator was also kicked out by its credit card payment processor Payson, who changed their terms of services and disallowed VPNs. Sunde believes that the two incidents are related. “It’s not a coincidence that we are banned from Payson, and then PayPal a few weeks after,” he told TorrentFreak. The iPredator team has tried to contact PayPal to get more information on the reason for the disconnection, but thus far without luck. The VPN provider still has to find a replacement for Payson as well, but to date have been unsuccessful. Worryingly, one large European payment processor informed iPredator that they have been put on a blacklist of services that are not allowed to accept credit card payments. “One processor we talked with, to replace Payson, told us that we were on a blacklist of services that are prohibited to accept credit cards. This apparently happened shortly after Payson announced it could no longer process MasterCard and Visa payments for VPN providers,” Sunde explains. TorrentFreak has asked both MasterCard and Visa about the claims of an operational blacklist, but both companies denied one exists. However, Sunde believes that they are covering something up. “It’s a sad day for democracy when third parties interfere with legal business, and then lie about it. This is typically something we hope someone leaks so we can see what they are morally censoring,” he adds. Mastercard’s Senior Vice President of External Communications, Andrew Bowins, further said that they have no policy to ban VPN services, but that they occasionally disconnect merchants who violate their terms. “We don’t currently have a policy that unilaterally prohibits VPNs or anonymizers. That said, in order to protect the integrity of the payment system and its participants, we do review merchants to determine whether their models are in compliance with our rules,” Bowins told TorrentFreak. Neither MasterCard nor Visa could confirm that iPredator was allowed to process credit card payments. Several other payment processors and acquiring banks we contacted regarding the matter did not reply, and PayPal has offered no explanation for their decision either. For Sunde and the rest of the iPredator team it’s this vagueness and lack of transparency that’s most frustrating. If they are for some reason banned, they would like to know on what grounds. “If someone SAYS what it is, we can at least argue about it. With the enormous power they have accumulated, they are required to offer some transparency and responsibility,” Sunde tells us. Without a response from PayPal we can only guess why iPredator is banned. Perhaps it’s their affiliation with the Pirate Bay, the fact that they operate a proxy, or because VPNs are starting to become tricky business. Truth is, we just don’t know. Meanwhile, iPredator is now forced to go to the “dark corners” of the internet to find payment providers who are still willing to work with them. The VPN provider still has a few payment options left, including Bitcoin, and they hope that the public are willing to support them in during these tough times. Source: PayPal Cuts Off “Pirate Bay” VPN iPredator, Freezes Assets View the full article
