  1. Light the candles, word nerds: It's lexicographer Samuel Johnson's 308th birthday. In celebration, Monday's Google Doodle honors Johnson, known best as writer of A Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1755. Image: google According to Humanities, Johnson was not the first lexicographer, nor the first to record definitions, but he was the first to craft a dictionary that sought to standardize the English language— to create a set of rules to which writers and speakers could adhere. 18. Sex may sell, but it hasn't tended to win Oscars in recent years. There are exceptions, course – your Carols, your Anomalisas. More often, though, sex in awards pictures tends to be small and subtle, if it exists at all. SEE ALSO: Fall movie preview: What to watch if the Oscars are your Super Bowl Think, for instance, of that tentative beachside encounter in this year's Best Picture winner, Moonlight. Or the lack of any sex at all in this year's other frontrunner, La La Land – despite the fact that La La Land was all about the love between two extremely attractive adults. But this year could be different, or at least it looks that way from Toronto. If the fall festivals mark the start of awards campaigning, the reviews out of this year's circuit suggest that we could be in for an unusually steamy race. Read more... 22. We already knew that Americans weren't the only ones to be rightly concerned about the Equifax hack, but the latest statement from the company's UK branch is quite something. SEE ALSO: This chatbot could help you sue Equifax Equifax Ltd has confirmed to Mashable that a file containing personal data of "fewer than 400,000 UK consumers" was stolen in the 7 September breach. That happened because of a "process failure" — or an epic fail as we normal humans say — which saw UK data being stored in the U.S. for a good 5 years, between 2011 and 2016. It was only corrected last year. The information included the customers' name, date of birth, email address, and a telephone number, according to Equifax, which added that the data "does not include any residential address information, password information or financial data." 23. Facebook founder and all-around bossman Mark Zuckerberg was apparently so eager to get Facebook accessible in China, where it has been blocked since 2009, that he tried to chat up Chinese president Xi Jinping on baby names. SEE ALSO: Facebook let advertisers buy ads targeting 'Jew haters' The little tidbit on Zuck's thirst for global domination comes from a thorough look in the New York Times at how the social media platform is trying to maneuver a world filled with a variety of government regulations and crackdowns. According to the Times: Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan have two daughters, Maxima and Augusta. And in 2016, Zuck and Chan (who is the daughter of ethnic Chinese refugees who fled Vietnam) posted a video on Zuck's Facebook page for the Lunar New Year in which the couple spoke in Mandarin and discussed Max's Chinese name, Chen Mingyu.
