  7. REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - During a recent shopping trip to Nordstrom, 11-year-old Ella Gunderson became frustrated with all the low-cut hip-huggers and skintight tops. So she wrote to the Seattle-based chain's executives to complain. The industry has been getting the message: A more modest look is in, fashion experts say. The shy, bespectacled redhead has since become an instant media darling, appearing on national television over the past two weeks to promote modest fashions instead of the saucy looks popularized by the likes of Britney Spears. ``We like to call this new girl Miss Modesty,'' said Gigi Solif Schanen, fashion editor at Seventeen magazine. ``It's such a different feeling but still very pretty and feminine and sexy. It's just a little more covered up.'' Shoppers are starting to see higher waistlines and lower hemlines, and tweeds, fitted blazers and layers are expected to be big this fall, Schanen said. http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp...679.htm&sc=1110
  8. An MPAA backed bill that requires users to include their name and address with any copyrighted audio-visual file they transfer has been approved by the California's Assembly Arts and Entertainment Committee. Violation of the bill, pushed by Democratic Senator Kevin Murray, would be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2500 and/or up to one year in prison. Murray "continues to be our champion on these issues," says one MPAA spokesman. The EFF earlier this year noted that not only was the bill intrusive, but it violated children protection laws preventing kids from offering personal information on-line without a parent's consent. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/46152
  9. GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon City doctor will spend two months in jail after he advised a patient that having sex with him would help her pelvic pain, then billed the Oregon Health Plan for his time during their sessions. Dr. Randall J. Smith, 50, must also perform 200 hours of community service and pay $1,105 in fines as part of a plea agreement, Rodney Hopkinson, a senior assistant attorney general for the Oregon Department of Justice, told The Oregonian newspaper. Hopkinson said Randall, who worked as an osteopath at the Adventist Health Clinic-Rockwood in Gresham, also was sentenced to 18 months probation by Multnomah County Circuit Judge Julie Frantz on Monday. http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp...10&floc=NW_4-L2
  10. MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant was shut down Friday after a transformer caught fire in the non-nuclear part of the facility, officials said. The fire was put out, and no radiation was released, they said. The operators declared an ``unusual event,'' the lowest of four emergency classifications set by the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The fire was detected just before 7 a.m. and the nuclear reactor was automatically shut down, said plant spokesman Rob Williams. The unusual event status was still in effect after the fire was put out. Williams said the fire cause had not yet been determined. No release of radiation occurred, and no one was injured, he said. http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp.../1121896306.htm
  11. What's so false about my sense of concern? Sure, I didn't know him personally, but this man was burned alive for Christ's sake! How often in the news do you hear about people being set on fire? Murder, strangling, gunshots, terrorism, beheadings, ..etc. You hear about those quite regularly it seems, but this really suprised me. That and the fact that up to eight people were involved in it. It sounds like acts terrorists in the Middle East would perform on people (and may just).
  12. I haven't the foggiest :wha': I think Jip forgot to take his medication again
  13. NEW YORK (AP) - Bill Clinton says in his new autobiography that his wife looked as if he had punched her in the gut when he finally confessed to his affair with Monica Lewinsky, and he slept on the couch for at least two months after that. In ``My Life,'' a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, the former president wrote that the affair with the White House intern revealed ``the darkest part of my inner life.'' The book, published by Alfred A. Knopf, comes out Tuesday with a first printing of 1.5 million in what is expected to be one of the biggest publishing sensations in years. It is almost certain to outsell his wife Hillary Rodham Clinton's memoirs, published last year. http://channels.netscape.com/ns/celebrity/...417.htm&sc=1110
  14. Agreed. This is really not an appropriate time for humor. This was a very brutal act these men engaged in :(
  15. If I was an unarmed American in the Middle East right now, I'd be getting out of there as fast as I could. People (especially Americans) are just not safe over there
  16. There are some very sick people who are in this world :( It's times like this that I believe that "an eye for an eye" type of justice should be used. :reallymad: These eight people are the ones that should really feel the heat
  17. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) -- Police asked local TV stations to air a surveillance video showing a homeless man who was set ablaze flailing his arms and running in a circle as he tried to extinguish the flames. Police were looking for up to eight men who participated in the attack outside an agency that helps the homeless. The victim, Lucas Adama Wiser, 21, was sleeping on a bench when he was set on fire Tuesday, and remained hospitalized Thursday with third-degree burns. "I don't know if this was a joke that they thought they were playing on somebody or what their mindset was, but it was a pretty sick joke," Police Lt. Rocky Vipond said. "We're hoping someone might recognize that vehicle and possibly the group of guys." The surveillance video at Corpus Christi Metro Ministries showed a dark sport utility vehicle and a smaller vehicle pulling up to Wiser and setting him on fire. Police could not identify license plate numbers from the video. http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Southwest/06/17...e.ap/index.html
  18. Unfortunately, there is such thing as job security in government positions. You have to practically declare war on a country to get fired. Even then, it's not such a sure thing
  19. Congratulations Ken for hitting the 1000 post milestone!! You Spammer ;) ;spammer:   :jammin: :jammintwo: :dancin: :dancin:
