Witness Recall Ohio Nightclub Shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Concertgoers who witnessed a fatal nightclub shooting frantically called emergency operators on cell phones and tried to resuscitate the wounded, with some having to wash victims' blood from their hands, faces and clothes afterward.

Dozens of witnesses and authorities interviewed by The Columbus Dispatch for a story Sunday described a chaotic scene during and after the shootings that killed five people. Some fans rushed to the stage to help, while others ran out of the club — passing authorities on their way in.

Billy Clark climbed over a barricade and reached onto the stage to try to help slain guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott after he was shot.

Dimebag 'Not Killed Because of Pantera Split'

Rocker Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott was not killed because he split with his former band Pantera, according to the police.

The guitarist was shot dead while performing onstage at the Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, Ohio with new band Damageplan last December by deranged fan Nathan Gale, who also killed four other people before being fatally shot by armed police.

It was initially thought Gale was enraged by a dispute between Abbott and former Pantera band member Phil Anselmo, which contributed to the break-up of the metal band.

..you just cannot beat the 6 minute video of dimebag and the boys doing "cowboys from hell" at ozzfest 2002.....astounding.....it just doesn`t get any better than that.....you can see the animosity that had developed between anselmo and dimebag on this video when dimebag stands right in front of his (anselmo`s) face and taunts him.........dimebag cuts off anselmo`s vocals at one stage in the song by extending a lead break instead of ending it.... when you watch this it`s quite apparent what`s going down..and you can hear them, (dimebag and anselmo) trading obscenities and insults very clearly.....:)
