In 1964 Dave Dilloway and Brian May were already recording amateur duets together after Brian and his father had build his famous guitar the 'Red Special'. Dave played bass and drums, Brian lead vocals and guitar. They recorded tracks like Bo Diddley's R&B Standard 'Bo Diddley", several covers of Shadows tunes like 'Apache', 'FBI' and 'Wonderful Land' as well as Chet Atkins' "Windy and Warm'.

In the autumn of 1964, Brian and Dave formed a band. Many schoolmates passed, but eventually the line-up was:

Guitar - John 'Jag' Garnham

Drums - Richard Thompson

Vocals and Harmonica - Tim Staffel

Bass - Dave Dilloway

Guitar - Brian May

After rejecting several names such as the Mind Boggles and Bod Chappy & the Beetles they named themselves after George Orwell's futuristic novel '1984'.

On the 28th October 1964, they gave their first public performance at St. Mary's Church Hall.

Here's an easy one.

Founded in 1971 by musicians touring with Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles began as the banding together of Glenn Frye, Don Henley, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon.

When the band went looking for a new guitarist to replace Leadon in 1976, what rocker did they land, forever changing their sound?

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
