Welcome to the North

28th September 2004

It's been a while since Britain's youngest musical invaders exploded internationally with their debut self titled album blew the minds of music fans and critics from all corners of the globe. Now with a rep like that to live up to, it's a wonder they even had the guts to enter the studio… but thank god they did.

Okay, so they may have set themselves up with an impossible task here and to be honest, this album isn't as enjoyable from start to finish as their last one. That said, the blistering 'Freedom Fighters', the melodic pop of 'Breakin', the punk rock drenched 'Cessation' or the bizarre circus-like chaos of 'I Need Love' are all moments that you'll find difficult to skip.

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
