With over two years to go until the release of "Star Wars VII," fans have been clamoring for any little bits of news that they can get their hands on. Speaking of, here's a quote from Samuel L. Jackson on seeing J. J. Abrams at George Lucas' wedding: "J.J. was there, I was there. I was like (raises eyebrows) and he was like (noncommittal shrug), and he just went about his business. I don’t know what that means. Harrison (Ford) was there too, and he was like (shrug)."

Jackson goes on to discuss how incorporating characters such as Han Solo, or Mace Windu, could potentially ease the transition between the old "Star Wars" actors and the new. Obviously, this is something that we're all rooting for; with the rumored return of Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. That said, we can't help but wonder what other characters from the "Star Wars" Expanded Universe might show up. Take Kyle Katarn for instance, the main character of several notable "Star Wars" video games.

Who?
Born the son of two Sullust farmers, Kyle Katarn enlists in the Imperial Academy at an early age after his mother is killed in a freak security droid incident. Soon, he comes to realize his innate force sensitivity; a trait passed on from his father who, unbeknownst to Kyle, was a supporter of the Rebellion. Kyle would later prove to be an irreplaceable member of the Galactic Empire.

However, Kyle later comes to realize the truly evil nature of the Imperial forces and defects, becoming a neutral mercenary for hire. Eventually, he becomes a Rebel spy and quickly moves up in the ranks. With his vast knowledge of Imperial tactics and weaponry, Kyle becomes a veritable one man wrecking crew for the Rebel Alliance and later an invaluable member of the New Jedi Order.

Why?
As previously stated, Kyle has experience fighting on both sides of the Galactic battlefront. He's been a stormtrooper, he's been a rebel, he's been a mercenary, and yes, he's even been a Jedi. Kyle Katarn is actually one of the only beings in the entire Star Wars universe that has been able to successfully train himself in the ways of the Jedi, with skills on par with that of Luke Skywalker. He can also understand and communicate with droids!

How?
Given Kyle's background on both sides of the galaxy, we wouldn't be surprised if he was introduced as an antagonist in "Star Wars VII." That way, we could see his evolution from Imperial stormtrooper to Rebel spy and later to member of the New Jedi Order over the course of the entire new "Star Wars" trilogy.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
