Joey LaCaze, the drummer for New Orleans sludge metal band Eyehategod, has died, as Invisible Oranges reports (via Brooklyn Vegan). He passed away due to unspecified causes, and had just returned to the U.S. after touring Europe. According to reports, he was 42.

Along with guitarist Jimmy Bower, LaCaze founded Eyehategod in New Orleans in 1988. The band became a legendary force in extreme music across their discography for Century Media, from 1992's In the Name of Suffering to 2000's Confederacy of Ruined Lives. Their 2005 rarities compilation Preaching the "End-Time" Message was released via Emetic Records.

Eyehategod had remained active in recent years, releasing the 2012 single "New Orleans Is the New Vietnam", with plans to release a new full-length. They were currently on a 25th anniversary tour, with U.S. dates set for the fall.

In addition to Eyehategod, LaCaze also drummed in Outlaw Order.

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
