What The New 'Star Wars' Movies Need: Lumiya

While J. J. Abrams' "Star Wars VII" won't be released until 2015, according to an unconfirmed rumor it would appear as though the latest "Star Wars" trilogy is already going into production. Apparently, Disney has signed a deal with Pinewood Studios in London booking the space for a solid ten years. Already in pre-production for the past three and a half months, "Star Wars VII" has also taken a pretty strange code name during its production phase: "Foodles."

Althought "Foodles" won't be released to the public for at least another two years, we figure now's about as good a time as any to start speculating about the film. One of the biggest questions on everyone's minds is which characters will be returning for the new "Star Wars" trilogy? After all, there are a ton of staples from the Star Wars Expanded Universe that would work wonderfully on film. Take Lumiya for instance, Darth Vader's secret female apprentice.



[b]Who?[/b]
Born in the Imperial Center of the planet Coruscant, Shira Elan Colla Brie displays a knack for Force-sensitivity at an early age. This, along with her dedication to the Imperial New Order, garners Brie the interest of Emperor Palpatine's chief enforcer, Darth Vader. Enrolling the young girl in a number of Imperial-sponsored military academys, Darth Vader would later promote Brie to the title of major and task her with a highly classified mission; infiltrate the Rebel Alliance and murder/humiliate fighter pilot Luke Skywalker.

Posing as a refuge of the planet Shalyvane, Brie successfully blends in with the rest of the Rebellion working as Skywalker's right hand. Eventually, she's even promoted to lieutenant for her outstanding service in the field. Brie then puts her master plan into effect, deliberately flying in front of Skywalker's X-wing during an Imperial attack. When Skywalker accidentally shoots Brie's ship down, he is burdened by guilt and shunned by the rest of the Rebellion. Meanwhile, Brie is saved by her true master, Darth Vader, and given cybernetic limbs as a means of repairing her battle-torn body. With that, she becomes Vader's official Sith apprentice.

[b]Why?[/b]
Although never seen on screen during the events of the original "Star Wars" trilogy, Lumiya actually has a deep-running history with both Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. For a time, Skywalker and her even share a romantic fling during her stint with the Rebellion. Lumiya also goes on to train Han Solo and Princess Organa's son, Jacen Solo, in the ways of the Sith after his brother, Anakin Solo, dies.

[b]How?[/b]
After Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader die in the final minutes of "Return of the Jedi," Lumiya is the sole surviving member of the Sith order. That being said, it would make complete sense if she was the main antagonist of "Star Wars VII." Perhaps, we could even see her backstory with Vader and Skywalker via flashbacks to the original trilogy!
