Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail Continues The Tradition Of 4 On 4th Of July

Jay-Z and Beyoncé continue to give consistent nods to the number “4,” with the latest move being Hov choosing to release his highly anticipated Magna Carta Holy Grail LP on July 4 to one million Samsung Galaxy owners. One doesn’t have to be a numerologist to appreciate numbers.

So where does the duo’s love of “all-four-everything” come from? For starters, both were born on the 4th day of the month: Bey on September 4 and Jay on December 4. “Shawn Carter was born December 4th, weighing in at 10 pounds, 8 ounces, he was the last of my 4 children,” says Gloria Carter on The Black Album’s “December 4th.”

Want more four? The couple got married in a secret ceremony on April 4 and instead of wedding rings, they opted for tattoos of the Roman numeral “IV” on their ring fingers.

A few years after their wedding, the Queen of the BeyHive released her fourth studio album, aptly titled, 4.

“The fans have named the album 4,” Beyoncé told W Magazine back in 2011. “And four is my favorite number. It’s an important number in my life: the date of my birthday, my mom’s birthday, my husband’s birthday, the day I got married. Barack Obama is the 44th president, and I performed ‘At Last’ by Etta James at his inauguration.”

For those prone to digging deeper in the symbolism barrel, there’s speculation that daughter Blue Ivy’s name derives from “IV,” there’s the fact that Jay’s new album has a four-word title and, of course, it took a four-letter governing body over the recording industry, the RIAA, to fully accept the Roc Nation mogul’s “new rules” and certify his new project platinum out of the gate.

But outside of that, fans will have to be patient as to the new ways these two find to incorporate the number 4.
