J-Kwon’s Pusha T Diss Gets Trending After Kanye Interview

After getting name dropped by Kanye West in a New York Times interview on Tuesday, J-Kwon’s Pusha T diss, “Pushing The Odds,” (which he dropped a few weeks ago) became a hot topic on the Internet.

In the rare and in-depth interview with the Times, Yeezy mentioned the St. Louis spitter when trying to explain the minimalism of his soundscapes on his upcoming sixth studio album, Yeezus.

“The last record I can remember — and I’m going to name records that you’ll think are cheesy — but like, J-Kwon, “Tipsy,” Ye told the Times. “People would think that’s like a lower-quality, less intellectual form of hip-hop, but that’s always my No. 1.”

Hip-hop fans haven’t heard much from the rapper born Jerrell Camrona Jones since his 2004 single reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200, but his name was recently dragged in the mud by Pusha, who mentioned Kwon on Wrath of Caine’s “Only You Can Tell It” with the line, “I’m grindin’ ni--a you J-Kwon.”

In retaliation, Kwon dropped his song nearly a month ago, with lines like, “Let’s get some sh-- straight for a second/you just getting’ bread Push, I been straight for a second” and “Ni---s say I’m dead, I say I’m too alive/I’m 26 that ni--a 35.”

No word on whether or not Pusha will continue to lyrically volley back and forth with Kwon, but one thing’s for sure, Kwon’s name is back on the minds of rap fans. Let’s hope he takes advantage of his moment with the kind of music that continues to inspire the “Michael Jordan of music.”
