AOL Music Shuts Down, Employees Tweet About Layoffs

AOL Music may be shutting its doors and letting go of its' staff, according to tweets sent out by employees on Friday (April 26).  The Spinner's official Twitter handle announced "All of AOL Music is shutting down. Thank you all for your support. We had such a blast." This tweet was quickly removed but not before fans ReTweeted it.

AOL Music consists of several genre-specific sites including hip-hop hub The Boombox and indie site Spinner. "Well, we all just got laid off. AOL Music is finished," said AOL Spinner's Editor Dan Reilly. The Boombox's Editor Paul Cantor echoed the layoffs on his Twitter account and shared that he was live-tweeting during his layoff. "Just lost my job. Actually I'm in the room losing it right this second, while tweeting. So yeah, hit me with any opportunities."

Fans tweeted their support during the alleged closing, sharing "Sad news" and "Pretty grim." Some writers even attributed AOL to giving them valuable byline opportunities. "So sad to hear about AOL Music. They were one of the first outlets that I wrote for that actually paid it's writers," another added.

According to Media Bistro, AOL did not comment on the story when requested.
