It may have been his first time blessing the court at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NYC, but Drake was in command last night. The Toronto rapper was the main performer during the 2013 Jordan Brand Classic basketball tournament, highlighting the next generation of basketball superstars.

After the West team took the National title, Drizzy, in his signature white October’s Very Own (OVO) owl shirt, manned the stage for a brief set of his hits including "HYFR," "Crew Love, "Headlines" and "The Motto." In addition to kids aspiring to be the next Michael Jordan, a bevy of celebrities were in the house for the game, including Nike ambassador and living legend Michael Jordan, NY Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony, NY Giants’ Victor Cruz and rappers Busta Rhymes, Stalley, Fabolous and Joe Budden. Drake’s dad and his OVO brethren were also prominently in attendance as were his “Team Drizzy” fans that vied for his attention throughout the night.

Despite the cutthroat battle between East and West (98 to 102 points), Drake was the main draw of the game. By the time he ended with his menacing single "Started From The Bottom," the crowd was literally louder than the rapper, singing along word-for-word. Even the basketball players of the National game joined in the fun, accompanying Drake onstage for an impromptu, collective performance of the song.

Drake shared at one point with the crowd that although it was his first time gracing Barclays Center (noted home of Jay-Z and the Brooklyn Nets), he was already planning on doing a tour stop there in October or November.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
