Beyonce’s new Pepsi commercial entitled “Mirrors,” which rolled out this morning (April 4,) previews the latest single “Grown Woman” off her forthcoming album. The dancer in Bey comes out full force in the 60 second spot as she debuts a never-before-seen dance routine while also treating fans to some of her iconic moves.

“Mirrors” starts off with Bey practicing her stuff alone before taking a sip of Pepsi. Then her music video past comes back to life as the “Bow Down/I Been On” singer matches her reflections (clad in the appropriate costumes) doing the “Crazy in Love” strut, “Single Ladies” hand flips and “Bootylicious” hip rolls. (A throwback to Destiny’s Child must always be included, right?)

All the while, “Grown Woman,” which was produced by Timbaland, accompanies her dance down memory lane. She sings, "They like the way I walk cause I walk with a vengeance/ And you listen to me when I talk cause I ain’t pretendin'/ Took awhile now I understand just where I’m going/ I know the world and I know who I am 'bout time I show it/ And I'm moving down like that when I do it/ I could be bad if I want / I can go slow all night long / I’m a grown woman.”

At the end of the commercial, a dramatic back bend quite literally shatters Bey’s past. “Embrace your past but live for now,” she says as she walks away. “Mirrors” is part of Beyonce’s 50 million dollar deal with Pepsi and its “Live for Now” global campaign. If one minute isn’t enough Beyonce for you, don’t worry, “Grown Woman” debuts in full on Monday (April 8).

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
