Here's one way to get in the newspaper: Write a song about it.

Country singer Alan Jackson's new album, What I Do, out today, includes a song called USA Today. In the song, Jackson tries to put on his best face after a breakup. He can't sleep, he can't eat, but, hey, he's famous, thanks to a reporter who calls him, eager to write a front-page story about "the loneliest man, they claim, in the USA today."

"I figured he was just a pretty average guy, kind of a nice fella, and this girl did him wrong and left him," says Jackson, 45. "His friends were worried about him, and I guess she was too, a little bit. He was so lonely and sad that the newspapers picked it up. He got back at her, almost, by becoming a celebrity in the paper. He tried to play it up like he didn't need her anymore. He hit the big time because she left him."

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
