Jason Clarke Set To Witness 'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes'

In the kind of casting move that gives you hope for the (ape-ruled) future, "Zero Dark Thirty" star [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/11973/personmain.jhtml"]Jason Clarke[/url] has just signed on to star in Matt Reeves' "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/503080/moviemain.jhtml"]Dawn of the Planet of the Apes[/url]." It's biology, bro.

[url="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/zero-dark-actor-jason-clarke-421981"][i]The Hollywood Reporter[/i][/url] had the exclusive on the Clark news and shared some details of the story, which takes place 15 years after the events of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

According to [i]THR[/i]'s Borys Kit, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" will follow two storylines. One tells the story of human scientists toughing it out in a post-ape revolution San Francisco. The other plot will bring back Caesar, once again played by Andy Serkis, as he tries to keep control of his more intelligent animal kingdom.

While there's no word on what character Clarke will play, count this is a major victory for the sequel. "Rise" surprised the world with its intelligence and compassion, so a sequel, in theory, should carry the torch for smart sci-fi. Casting Clarke, who really did a fantastic, underappreciated job in "Zero Dark Thirty," shows that the creators of the film have their heads in the right place. Another plus, Clarke has experience working with monkeys, so yeah...

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is expected to start shooting in the spring for a 2014 release.
