Jay-Z Celebrates Brooklyn Nets Win Over NY Knicks

It’s official: Brooklyn’s in the house. After the Brooklyn Nets 96-89 overtime victory over the NY Knicks Monday night (November 26) at the Barclays Center, Jay-Z, who sat courtside near the Nets’ bench with wife Beyonce, sent out an ethereal post-game tweet to solidify that the interborough rivalry between the two teams separated by a river had officially begun: “The city is under new management.”

Vintage Hov. That line, which was retweeted with the fervor of a disturbed hornets nest, instantly pitted Knicks' and Nets' fans against each other and forced hordes of indecisive New Yorkers into finally picking a side. Either you were ridin’ with New York or you were ridin’ with Brooklyn.

The game itself was a sight to see. After 48 minutes of back and forth basketball with brilliant play from Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler in orange and blue and Deron Williams and Gerald Wallace in black and white, it all came down to OT. In the last 30 seconds, BK’s point gawd Deron Williams iced two free throws and ignited a raucous “M.V.P.” chant from grateful Brooklynites and, more importantly, a battle cry that was rhythmically hip-hop as if Jigga himself had initiated it from his seat:

"Broooook-lyn…Broooook-lyn… Broooook-lyn," the crowd chanted over and over. Fans might as well have stood up out of their seats and waved as if they just didn’t care. After the final buzzer sounded, Jay, usually reserved and confidently pensive in nature, gave every member of the team a pound with glee, like he was channeling his inner Spike Lee.

Of course, it was only one game, but the Nets are 4-0 in games where Jay has sat courtside rockin' limited-edition sneaks and Nets' merch, which begs the question: With Jay-Z cheering them on, especially when the Nets take on the Knicks, will Brooklyn keep on takin’ it?
