As I type, Jen's ohkoma is on the phone instructing us how to vote. ;) If I'm half that mobile at that age, it'll be a miracle.

Paul Martin? Don't like him, but trust that he'll continue the principles of Cretien somewhat. I guess I'm saying I don't find him dangerous.

Jack Layton? I don't think the NDP have had this kind of charismatic, useful leader since Broadbent. He's da bomb.

Harper? :soapbox: I can live without.

The way reporting is done is different now I guess.

First results are for the Maritimes. Then Quebec. Then Ontario and west to Alberta. Last and alone, B.C.

So far with the Maritimes, either leading or declared it is:

Liberals - 22

Conserv- 7

New Dems - 3

Bloq - 1

Quebec to Alberta closes in 6 minutes. Then the results start. The election is over before B.C. will start voting.

Liberals - 133

Conserv - 91

Bloq - 54

NDP - 26

Indep - 1

305/308 ridings coming in

You can expect Prime Minister Martin to approach the socialist NDP to ask them to join them in creating a majority government. A possible real breakthrough for some issues:

pot

gay marriage

copyright ?????

Liberals will hold power, but will require the NDP to form a majority.

I remember that. The racial factor of that party is why we were adamantly against them too.

What province?

BTW - There is talk the Liberals will run with a minority governement and just assume that they will pick up enough support from other parties on a vote by vote basis to continue on.

The Americans and others on the board may find this interesting. Unless there is a majority win by a governement, the Gov General (rep of the Queen) asks the former gov't to reform.

But it is in the politics section;)

Martin's Heritage Minister was defeated. You know, the lady promoting the harsh changes to copyright. :rotfl:

Check this out for all info.

LIB 135 36.71% pop. support

CON 99 29.61%

BQ 54 12.40%

NDP 19 15.69%

NA 1 .13%

OTH 0 5.47%

155 seats are needed for a majority. The Liberals seem like they are going to just run as a minority and assume they will get support until the other parties are ready to do this again.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
