Cyphers on cyphers on cyphers at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards. The much talked-about Ruff Ryders lyrical cypher featured honcho DMX (who was credited as being from Baltimore not Yonkers), Philly's Cassidy and NYC's Mook. After a long musical hiatus, the "pitbull in a skirt" Eve also joined in. "In my lane, ain't no others that can match my persistence," she rapped.

DMX finished off the round in a bucket hat and trademark "X" shirt. "Been rapping for 20 years and you 20 years old," X rapped to the young pups. "We gonna walk these dogs to the bitter end."

Another buzzy cypher featured television actor turned rapper Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino. Though he isn't known specifically as a spitter, Gambino's performance during the set with newbies like A$AP Rocky, Angel Haze and Driicky Graham drew much attention. "Got the black AMEX gotta to pull the race card" and "He on BET and he got White people problems?" were but some of his memorable zingers.

"Childish Gambino" quickly became a trending topic on Twitter and fans gave the rapper props for holding his own. "Childish Gambino bodied that cypher," "Watch all these people hop on Childish Gambino because they saw him on BET," and "Childish Gambino went nuts on the BET cyper..." were just some of the tweets showing him love.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
