We've known for a few months now that a "Magic Mike" sequel was on its way, and now new details about the project are beginning to emerge.

German website Film Starts (via The Film Stage) recently sat down with Channing Tatum and his "Magic Mike" co-writer Reid Carolin and asked them about the planned project. We're going off of Google Translate here, but Tatum reportedly said that the sequel will become "a kind of road movie about a group [of strippers]."

Tatum also said that, while it would be "great to get back Steven Soderbergh," he is open to the idea of having a new director for the project. That could be Soderbergh's assistant director Gregory Jacobs, or Tatum and/or Carolin themselves. Consider us intrigued.

"We really want to [make it], but Steven Soderbergh really wants to retire," Tatum said. "We will undoubtedly make the Broadway version first."

Tatum and his "Magic Mike" costars have been teasing a follow-up to the film before it even hit theaters. Based on what Joe Manganiello has said, the flick could actually be a prequel instead of a sequel.

"We're actually talking about the possibility of doing the prequel, because if you do the sequel, then you lose Mike [Tatum's character]," Manganiello told Hollywood.com back in June. "Otherwise, what's Mike going to do? He's going to come back for one big heist ... so, you would do the prequel, how they got there."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
