'Hobbit' App Introduces Lee Pace, Teases End Of 'Unexpected Journey'

"[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/376322/moviemain.jhtml"]The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey[/url]" is three months away from hitting theaters, which means it's the perfect time for Warner Bros. to debut an app for the flick called "[url="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hobbit-movies/id545808528"]Hobbit Movies[/url]."

The app is free to download and is chock full of awesome new looks into the first "Hobbit" film. In addition to compiling the various trailers for the movie production videos Peter Jackson has released, the app is also loaded with new stills, character images and production stills that give us our long-anticipated first look at characters like Lee Pace's Thranduil.



But even more exciting than the new images -- and finally getting to see Pace as Legolas's father is definitely exciting -- is the fact that the app has released a new banner that seemingly reveals where the split between "An Unexpected Journey" and "The Desolation of Smaug" will take place. An [url="http://www.ew.com/ew/special/0,,20399642_20610399,00.html"]earlier version of the banner[/url] showed that the initial plan when there had just been two movies was to split the flicks during Bilbo and the dwarves' journey down the river in barrels, but now we see that it actually will end with the big forest fire scene. It will be interesting to see how this decision affects the break between "The Desolation of Smaug" and "There and Back Again."

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is due in theaters on December 14, 2012. "The Desolation of Smaug" will hit theaters on December 13, 2013 with "There and Back Again" following on July 18, 2014.
