President Obama is calling on his influential friends for support in the final few months leading up  to the presidential election. Over the weekend, he made a video cameo during Jay-Z's performance at the Made in America Festival and most recently he reached out to include..."Harold & Kumar" in the rally to vote.

In a new video ad released by the president's camp, Obama sits in his office in a suit talking on the phone, “This is Barack. Listen, I need to know if you’re on board. Okay, good. Cause I’m counting on you — everybody is. We have to get this right.”

With dramatic music playing in the background, he adds, “Just remember that I’m trusting you on this, and I’ll see you there.”

The video then cuts to John Cho (who plays Harold) and Kal Penn (who plays Kumar) sitting on a couch eating pizza and watching a movie as Penn gets off the phone. "Dude, who was that? Sounded intense," Cho asks.

"The president," replies Kal Penn.

"Sweet," says Cho, as he puts a Cheeto in his mouth.

The ad is aimed at promoting this week's Democratic National Convention where Kal Penn will be hosting a livestream for BarackObama.com. In 2009, Penn left acting to work at the White House Office of Public Engagement and he's currently a co-chair of the president's reelection campaign.

In addition to hosting the livestream, Penn will address the convention in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday night and is set take to stage Thursday night when the President officially accepts the Democratic nomination for another term in office.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
