"Lawless" may star big names like Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, and Shia LaBeouf and look like a run-of-the-mill Hollywood period piece, but that assessment leaves out one big factor, director John Hillcoat.

If you aren't familiar with his work, Hillcoat likes things dark and bloody. (If you need further evidence, we would direct you to this NSFW clip from "The Proposition.")

The new red band trailer for "Lawless" shows off the more "Hillcoat-y" aspects of the movie, including a gruesome shot of a tarred and feathered bootlegger and one of Tom Hardy literally filling a man's mouth with gasoline.
