With Marc Webb's future with "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise up in the air, the director is considering a handful of films to be his next project. One of them could be the Allen Loeb-scripted flick "Only Boy Living in New York," according to new reports.

Thomspon on Hollywood spoke with "Ruby Sparks" producers Ron Yerxa and Albert Berger recently and learned that Webb is allegedly attached to direct the upcoming coming-of-age tale. The film has been in development for over seven years, and last we heard it was set to star Logan Lerman and be directed by Seth Gordon.

It's unclear if either of those factors has changed, but the Thompson story makes it seem as though Webb has taken over directing duties from Gordon. Lerman could still be up for the part, as "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" isn't set to start a franchise and "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" is in post-production. The young star is currently filming "Noah" with Darren Aronofsky.

"Only Boy Living in New York" tells the story of a recent college graduate named Thomas who learns that his father is having an affair. He does his best to stop their relationship, but ends up becoming involved with the woman himself. In the end, it's actually the "quirky neighbor" who teaches him about love, The Playlist reports.

Even though Thompson is reporting this directing news as fact, we're still categorizing it as a rumor for now. There have been a number of other films Webb has been considering for his follow-up to "The Amazing Spider-Man," including "Just Another Love Story," a "Jesus Christ Superstar" remake and "Age of Rage," and he still has a film commitment to Fox to take into account. There's also the fact that his future as director on "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is uncertain, so we're waiting to find out the final verdict on that. "Only Boy Living In New York" seems like a good fit for Webb's style of filmmaking, but we'll wait until an official confirmation is made before we start getting excited about his involvement.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
