Both Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson have finally issued statements addressing the assault incident that took place over the weekend, but things still aren't looking up for the couple.

The NFL player was arrested Saturday night on a domestic-abuse charge. In addition to losing his contract with the Miami Dolphins, plus the couple's VH1 reality show, Lozada is now filing for divorce.

A rep for Lozada confirmed to MTV News that the "Basketball Wives" star is ready to divorce Johnson, whom she married on the Fourth of July in a ceremony that was set to be broadcast on the VH1 show "Ev and Ocho." Johnson, seemingly ecstatic on his wedding date, continued to tweet throughout the ceremony, keeping fans updated.

News of the divorce came shortly after a statement from Lozada on Tuesday (August 14) addressed the incident for the first time. "It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday," the statement read. "I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time."

A few hours later, Johnson, who had also remained mum, posted a statement to his Ochocinco News Network website. "I would like to apologize to everyone for the recent events that have occurred," he wrote. "I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death. I will continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL. To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies. I will stay positive and get through this tough period in my life."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
