Sacha Baron Cohen has prepared quite the 50th birthday present for James Bond: he's going to spoof him.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Cohen's pitch for a spoof of James Bond-style films, which he prepared with screenwriter Phil Johnson, was recently picked up by Paramount. There's no guarantee that Cohen will take a role in the project, but THR reports it's about a James Bond-like spy who "is forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan."

If Cohen were to take a role in the movie, we have a feeling which character it would be. (Hint: it's the latter.) But we'd love to see Cohen take on the suave James Bond spy and maybe have someone who typically plays straight comedic roles be the "moronic" brother.

Apparently Cohen's participation in the film, which is currently untitled, is dependent on his "availability and scheduling." Now that he's out of "Django Unchained" and "Les Miserables" is wrapped, hopefully that means he's available.

For those of you who aren't too familiar with Johnson, he's made quite a name for himself over the past two years. Johnson had his big break with 2011's "Cedar Rapids," and also wrote Disney's upcoming ode to video games, "Wreck-It Ralph." But Johnson also has a hand for drama, as he penned Alexander Payne's next project, "Nebraska." We have a feeling this film with Cohen will be more comedy than drama, but it's nice to know he can straddle both genres.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
