'Dumb And Dumber To' Could Still Maybe Possibly Happen

Last we heard, [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/14970/personmain.jhtml"]Jeff Daniels[/url] was still optimistic that a [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/06/22/jeff-daniels-dumb-and-dumber-to/"]"Dumb and Dumber" sequel could happen[/url] with [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/10030/personmain.jhtml"]Jim Carrey[/url]. The latter actor [url="http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1687855/jim-carrey-dumb-and-dumber-sequel.jhtml"]departed the project[/url] back in June due to a reported dispute with the studios involved, but Daniels has been saying ever since that Carrey isn't gone for good.

He enforced that at the Television Critics Association panel for "The Newsroom," where he unsurprisingly was asked about the long hoped for sequel. [url="http://www.craveonline.com/film/articles/193323-jeff-daniels-says-theres-hope-for-the-dumb-and-dumber-sequel"]Crave Online[/url] talked to the star about the movie and asked whether there's a chance it will actually get made, and he claimed that it's as close as it's ever been.

"Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it," Daniels said. "They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do ‘Newsroom’ in November. So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever."



When MTV News talked to Daniels earlier this summer about whether a "Dumb and Dumbererer" would happen without Carrey, he told us, "Nobody's doing it without Jim."

It's great news that Daniels is sticking to that, and that it seems like there's a chance Carrey will come back on board. It turns out that one of the biggest problems with making the movie is going to be getting everyone in the same place at the same time, though. Daniels addressed the will-they/won't they nature of the movie and why it's taken so long to get it to the big screen at the TCAs.

"We thought it was in pretty good shape," he told Crave. "The studio and others wanted some more work done it. The Farrellys wanted more work done on it so they got working on it and I think last week they decided to push the shooting of it to next year, possibly because I wasn’t going to move 'The Newsroom.'"
