When it comes to knowing the time, precision is key, and no other character on TV is as precise as Heisenberg himself, "Breaking Bad"'s Walter White.

That's why it's fitting that as part of the consistently badass "Breaking Gifs" art project, Vannen Watches and artist/toy designer Tristan Eaton have teamed up for the campaign's first timepiece. The imagery of the "Contaminant" watch should immediately connect with hardcore fans of the show.

Pulling inspiration from season three's bottle episode, "Fly," the watch looks like what you'd expect a "Breaking Bad" watch to look like—exact measurement markings on the band and a face that resembles a pressure gauge—except there's one feature that would drive Walter White insane. Encased in the glass is a little pest that could ruin an entire batch. A life-size fly is printed right on the face.

On the reverse side, you'll find a skull-and-crossbones wearing a recognizable hat and a pair of sunglasses, Heisenberg-style.

The "Contaminant" watch will be released to fans in an extremely limited run. Only 200 pieces will go on sale for $80 each, so like the rest of the "Breaking Gifs" art, the watch is going to go fast. If you want any chance at snagging one of the "Contaminant" watches, you'll have to go to VannenWatches.com at midnight EST on Thursday, August 2 to order it.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
