We might not be able to see the exclusive "The Hobbit" footage that was shown at Comic-Con, but at least we can get a closer look at Gollum.

E! News has premiered two new images of our favorite cave-dwelling, ring-losing "Lord of the Rings" characters that fans can also see in the upcoming issue of Empire magazine. The first image shows the final product of Gollum in all his CGI glory, while the second shows Andy Serkis in full motion-capture uniform acting opposite Martin Freeman.

Both of these images seem to take place during the famous "The Hobbit" cave scene, which could be one of the potential splitting points for the two movies. In the famous scene, Bilbo Baggins encounters Gollum for the first time and also gets ahold of the One Ring.

Of course, "The Hobbit" could actually be split into three movies instead of two. We have mixed feelings on the matter, but reports have it that Peter Jackson is looking to turn the movies into a trilogy. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "There and Back Again" are both padded with extra material from the Appendices at the end of "The Return of the King," and Jackson claims there's a good 125 more pages that he can cull from for a new film.

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” comes out December 14, and “The Hobbit: There And Back Again" hits theaters December 13, 2013. A third movie would likely come out on December 2014. "The Hobbit" stars Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Andy Serkis, Ian McKellan, Evangeline Lilly, Cate Blanchett and many more.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
