More than a year ago, Shia LaBeouf told us that "Indiana Jones 5" was "not so far off." Well, apparently we have differing interpretations of what that means, because now it sounds like the movie isn't going to happen at all.

Collider recently sat down with producer Frank Marshall and asked him for an update on the potential "Indy" flick. The last we heard was that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg had a "germ of an idea" for the project, but it sounds like nothing ever came of that. Read more after the jump.

"I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah. I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin," Marshall said. "Yeah, no [Lucas] isn’t [hungry to do another Indiana Jones]. And he’s obviously passing the baton to my wife, so."

Marshall's wife is producer Kathleen Kennedy, who was named co-chair at Lucasfilm and, ultimately, Lucas's successor at the beginning of June. This decision to stop while they're (sort of) ahead on the "Indiana Jones" franchise seems in keeping with the comments Lucas made to The New York Times earlier this year.

“I’m retiring. I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff," he said. “Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”

With that being said, it's worth noting that Lucas did leave himself a clause to make a fifth "Indiana Jones" film. Hopefully that clause includes the fact that it will need to star Sean Connery again, despite the fact he retired four years ago.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
