For fans of Paul Thomas Anderson or just those with their eyes already on the 2013 Oscar race, "The Master" ranks among the most anticipated films of the year. Thus far we've seen two teaser-y previews of the film and one abstract, yet beautiful poster.

Finally, a full trailer has dropped over at Yahoo! Movie, incorporating some of the footage from those earlier previews, but packing an impressive amount of stunning images shot in the larger 65mm format.

If you are capable, please try to enjoy this trailer on the biggest screen and the highest resolution possible. Most movies just don't look like this anymore.

If you haven't been following "The Master" in development, it is another one of Anderson's journey's into the past of his home state, California. This time, he's telling the story of Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the hopelessly inquisitive author of "The Split Saber," the book that forms the basis of a new religion, not unlike L. Ron Hubbard and his infamous creation, Scientology.

The parallels to Scientology have been there from the very beginning, back when Anderson cast Hoffman and there was only a brief synopsis to speak of. There have already been rumors of Tom Cruise, a former Anderson collaborate, disagreeing with certain aspects of the film, specifically Jesse Plemons speaks in the trailer.

"The Master" will open in theater this October, and if any film this fall merits a ticket purchase based solely on the visuals in the trailer, this is it.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
